Some days had passed since the walk through the woods. Everything was going great, slowly the days were getting warmer and longer, indicating that spring was close to being over. And Iris was enjoying every second of it, she felt comfortable in the company of Kira, the girls had the time to catch up on everything they did in the years they were apart. The presence of the Jedi wasn't as uncomfortable as she thought, Iris blocked her mind and tried to act normal, in which she succeeded, making her proud of her own skills.
On one of the last cloudy afternoons on Naboo before summer, Kira and Iris were talking in the immense living room.
"Do you remember the year when your father decided for you to spend a school year with us?" Kira asked, lying on one of the big sofas of the living room.
"Oh God, yes! Padmé and I were 13 and you 8, I remember that you loved to hang out with our group of friends because you said that we were cool big kids." Iris laughed, remembering all those moments she kept in the back of her mind.
"That's true. But I mean, everybody wanted to be in your group." Kira replied. "Wait a minute, aren't the Jedi supposed to watch over us?"
"Obi-Wan told me earlier that they had some Jedi business, I think they had a conference with the Jedi Council." Iris said.
The two girls were comfortably lying on the big sofas of the living room with the light of the clouded sun coming in from the windows. The whole palace was silent as not many workers were needed, so the only thing one could hear was the wind outside, making the branches move. Iris was calm, she enjoyed these relaxing moments, especially with someone she loved. Iris could say that Kira was her best friend, not that Padmé was less likeable than her younger sister but Kira was the fun and the outgoing part Iris needed in a friend.
Hours went by and they continued talking about what happened in the year Iris lived in Naboo. As she was the daughter of the Chancellor and close friends with the royalty, she attended the best school in Naboo. The teachers said that Iris was a child prodigy, she was excellent in all of the subjects and was way advanced for her age. But Iris wasn't a child prodigy, from a young age her father made her learn every kind of instrument, language, and manners, in short, Palpatine was training her to be perfect, without any flaws. So that school year for Iris was academically awfully boring, she already knew everything but she never bragged about it, she was a quiet girl, did the tests and spent time with her classmates.
At first Iris was really shy, one thing she never really learned was how to socialise with people of her age, keeping in mind that her only friends were Kira and Padmé. Luckily Padmé introduced Iris to her group of friends, two girls and two boys. Right from the beginning she felt welcome, they were really nice and friendly, obviously all coming from the elite families. It was there, in that group where Iris had her first crush. His name was Theodore but everybody called him Theo and if she remembered correctly, he was tall, with green eyes and black curly hair. Of course, after that school year she never saw him again so nothing happened between them, but, on the whole, it was a bittersweet feeling, because she hadn't had the opportunity to say goodbye to any of those friends.
"Do you still talk with them? You know, with Theodore, Anthony and Daphne." Iris asked, just when the door of the living room opened and the two Jedi came in.
"Agh! Master Windu is extremely annoying, he just keeps talking." Anakin complained entering the room.
"Anakin, do not talk like that about your superiors! Master Windu is a wise man and if he talks for 2 hours you will listen." Obi-Wan said, scolding the young padawan.
Obi-Wan and Anakin decided to sit on the same sofa where the girls were sitting, of course the sofa was big, but with Iris and Kira lying there was not much space left. Iris quickly sat up and made space for Obi-Wan next to her. Unlike Obi-Wan and Iris, Kira decided to continue lying down, she only moved her legs to let Anakin sit and then she put them back up again in his lap.
