Rikki ran towards Mrs Bonfield's (Teddy Mother's) bedroom in a great hurry. Luckily, this time, the door was ajar. He managed to push the door open and darted inside. Unaware to him, Aunty was inside and he knocked directly onto her leg. Aunty was startled. When she saw Rikki, she let out a cry. As a result, Mrs Bonfield was waken up and got shocked as well.
"What is it, aunt?" asked Mrs Bonfield in a slightly frightened voice, "what is it? Is it a cobra? Is there a cobra in this room?"
"No, it's me, Teddy mother," Rikki said, "I am here to make sure no cobra can come in..."
Before he finished, Aunty let out another cry. "No, no, honey, it's not it. Go back to sleep. I will fix it!" She ran quickly to the corridor and yelled in such a sharp & loud voice that anyone in the bungalow could hear.
"Teddy's nanny! Come here now! Go get this wild beast out! He's trying to attack me! Now he's in...oh no! My dear heart! He's about to climb onto Emma's bed! Get him out of this room...no, this bungalow, right this moment!"
Teddy's nanny rushed into the bedroom and made a great effort to catch Rikki (and failed). The mongoose was too quick. Neither nanny nor Aunty was able to get him. Aunty ran towards a window and shouted to the four Indian villagers, "come in and get the wild beast! Come in and catch him!"
"Wild beast?" Rikki was unhappy. He snapped and forgot to speak politely. "Hey, old lady, I am not a wild beast, I am a house mongoose! Stop yelling. I am only here to help!"
Needless to say, he spoke in animal language and nobody could understand him. Aunty, who could only hear him making all sorts of sounds, thought he was getting aggressive.
"What are you four waiting for?" Aunty cried, "he's getting wilder every minute. Now he's wanting to bite me!"
All four villagers rushed into the bungalow. Rikki, who did not want to cause any bedlam in the house, ran into the corridor and made his way to the garden, where he was sure nobody could capture him. However, the minute he ran into the garden, Aunty closed the front door and all the windows she was able to access in the bungalow.
"This will prevent him from getting back," she muttered in her breath.
She then yelled at the villagers, "get him, get him! Don't let him ruin the garden!"
"What? I? Ruin the garden?" Rikki turned to look at Aunty in dismay. His frustration grew even worse when he saw that he was banished from the bungalow. Aunty, who noticed the mongoose was looking at her, immediately shut the window and closed the curtains.
"Hey wait, don't shut everything, I'm not done talking yet!" Rikki shouted while managing to dodge from the clumsy hands of villagers, "you-you can't shut me out of the bungalow. I have a duty to protect everyone in the house from dangerous creatures!"
Teddy saw what happened through his window. As a result, he pushed his small bedroom window open with great effort and cried out, "what're you doing to Rikki? Don't hurt him! He's my friend! Rikki, climb into my room through this window!"
Nanny rushed into his room and closed the window quickly.
"You can't do this, Teddy," cried the nanny, who shook her head in disapproval, "ma'am doesn't allow. She won't be happy to see this!"
"No, nan, I don't care," Teddy protested loudly, "I need Rikki. Let him in! Let him in!"Teddy's bedroom was located on the second floor. Old Aunty climbed the stairs slowly and trudged into Teddy's room with slight disappointment.
