Chapter 48 Cristobel's Footerie

Illia decided to do a shift at the library, while Crue and I worked with Amisi. I let her borrow a set of my clothes and she looks so cute in them. She'd had to roll down the waistband of the pants to accommodate her tail, but since the shirt was long enough to swing past her hips it wasn't an issue. I hadn't realized that Illia and wore the same pant size, but that my torso was a lot longer than hers and that was what made me taller. My shirt looked like a fitted mini dress on her. She added her belt and you'd never have guessed she was wearing men's clothes. She didn't even have to swing by her place before going to work.

Crue and I settled in and began to run through ten minute intervals of intimidation and rest. I thought it was going fine. I had some resistance already so it didn't affect me as much. Still, I could feel the change in atmosphere and I had to actively work on keeping myself from freaking out.

Partway through there was a knock on my bedroom door. Apparently, intimidation went through walls. Murray politely but firmly told us to take our training somewhere else. We all apologized profusely and I gave Murray some chocolate for those who were accidentally caught up in our training.

We ended up going outside the walls. Not too far from the gate, but far enough that what we were doing wouldn't scare the guards or any bystanders on the road. The Green Apes were pissed though. I could hear them screeching in the distance. They'd get over it.

*Skill Gain- Crue- Mind Magic Resistance~

I activated the skill for him and brought it up to a level 2. Having used the skill so much Amisi's skill also leveled up. It was that increase that finally pushed Crue over the top and gained him the skill. Having been there experiencing it right along with him my resistance had been bumped up to a level 3.

"That didn't take as long as I thought it would," Crue commented. He'd sweated through his clothes. He took them off and I sort of splashed him with water from my inventory until he felt clean enough to appear in polite society. Eri, the human water hose! I let him borrow a set of my clothes too. At this rate, I'd have to get my laundry done early. Either that or go shopping for new clothes.

At that thought, I froze up, my brain glitching out.

"Eri?" Crue asked as he tugged the hem of the shirt down his torso.

"I had a thought," I began, then changed what I was going to say. "What happened with Durmond's."

Crue looked at me inspecting me for something. Maybe signs I was about to lose my shit? I didn't blame him.

"He's got a daughter. His son-in-law is running the store right now. He's retired from the guard, but it's not like he can't run the business. He runs the branch in Winter City with his wife. His wife is running Winter City on her own while he's here. His son and daughter, Durmond's grandchildren, are our age but eventually I think they will each take over one of the stores. They are here training with their dad.

"Old Durmond is now living with his daughter and is helping around where he can in Winter City."

"I see," I thought about it. The business had seemed to bounce back. I was glad the old guy was ok.

"Can I ask why you wanted to know?" Crue asked exaggerated nonchalance. He wasn't fooling me. I knew he was concerned.

"I was just thinking that I don't really have enough clothes, and winter is here, but I didn't really want to go there. Ya know?" I shrugged and dug the toe of my boot into the wet dirt.

"You don't have winter stuff yet?" Crue asked.

"Not really. My rain gear has a fur lining that I can add to it but that's about it." Mentioning my rain gear made me think of Tuppance. My brain glitched again and my breathing sped up.
