CASSIDY SAT IN HER BED, LEGS CROSSED in front of her, one palm touching the walkie talkie next to her. She had it set to static, just like Eleven used to have. A bandana was pulled around her face, eyes closed despite the darkness already there. She’d been training a lot these days, she was determined to be in more control of her powers. Lately, they’d been pretty good. She didn’t have massive ruptures of emotion that would cause catastrophic damage, so she saw that as pretty good.

Grayson had said she’d been getting better. He told her that the key to being in control of her powers was sorting out her emotions first. Before she found out about what she could do, before last year, Cassidy would say, yes, she was great at dealing with her emotions. She really should have known that having a dead mother she’d never known and a sense of denial everytime she lost someone was more of a problem.

They’d come to the conclusion that because of the years of repressed emotions that had been held up inside her mind, it had caused malfunctions in her powers. They didn’t know whether they were needed, if they were to be released, or if they were completely useless. Basically, she had been so confused with herself that she’d confused her abilities in the process. Therefore, their training sessions had turned more into therapy sessions. Either way, it seemed to be helping because she felt more in control than ever before.
