Harvey was my only real academic competitor. We had every single class together and at the beginning of our first year I thought we could have been friends, maybe even something more; but the more I got to know him, the more insufferable he became. He was one of those people that was naturally gifted. He didn't have to work hard for good grades and it was vexing.

He was annoyingly handsome but I managed to look past that whenever we went back and forth over something stupid.

My best friend would always tease me over our feud. She would only see Harvey in passing but she would never fail to mention the 'tension' that she saw between us. I thought she was delusional.

The weird thing was that this year, he was suddenly a changed person. He was oddly nice to me and I honestly liked the change although I initially thought it was a tactic of sorts. At least my energy that was spent hating him was going to be put to better use.

"I'll be at yours by 9," Isla told me. I didn't want to go to the party anyway but it was the first party of my last year at university. It would have been wrong if I didn't go. "You know who is gonna be there," she said and winked. I rolled my eyes and she smiled.

"Oh he's been so nice lately, it's weird," I told her and she raised an eyebrow.

"Well at least he's not irritating you," she shrugged. She looked back down at her notes and started scribbling something down.

"Yeah I guess you're right," I sighed and began daydreaming. Harvey came to mind and thought about seeing him later on. I thought about what I was gonna wear so I could grab his attention.

"Shit, I'm gonna be late for class. I'll see you at nine," she said and hastily started packing her stuff up. I snapped out of my fantasy and my face went hot.

"See you later," I said and averted my attention to my laptop when she left. It was only the first week back and it already felt like I had tons to do.

I started an assignment when I heard the chair opposite me being pulled out. I instantly looked up and sighed at the sight in front of me.

"Good to see you, Ines," Harvey smiled and placed a cup of coffee on the table.

"Hi Harvey," I simply responded and looked back down at my work. I couldn't let him know that I was interested in him. Especially since I wouldn't even admit it to myself.

"How are you doing?" He asked and I sighed again.

"Look, Harvey, I don't have time for small talk so if you could get to the point or leave, that would be appreciated," I told him and he put his hands up like I was trying to shoot him. I was lying right to his face. I loved the small talk.

"Alright then, I just wanted to officially apologise for the last two years. It's third year now and I think we should just be mature. No petty arguments. Let's just be friends. I even got you coffee." he spoke and I raised an eyebrow.

"That's not poisoned is it?" I asked and sat back in my seat. He was right. We didn't have time for silly feuds anymore. It was third year. We had bigger fish to fry. Not to mention I had these confusing feelings towards him that I didn't want to confront.

"No it's not poisonous," he simply said and smirked.

"We can be friends if that means you'll leave me alone now," I smiled and looked down at my work.

"Great, see you later." He said with an upbeat tone and stood up. He grabbed the cup he put down and began to walk away.

"Leave it," I said referring to the coffee and he huffed. The smile on his face made my heart warm. He placed the cup down and left.
