My best friend, Liza and I were headed to a new club in town. Something was telling me I was gonna enjoy the night. Was it my outfit? I did look pretty hot that night. Better than I usually did and Liza didn't let me forget that. She had been drinking before we left but she wasn't drunk. Tipsy at best.

She kept stressing the fact that I needed to get with someone that night while I was completely opposed to the idea. I was loving my life as and independent, working woman and I didn't need a man to mess that up.

"You look too good no to!" She whined as we inched closer to the front of the line. All I could do was laugh at her and her excitement for the night grew.

"No not tonight okay." I sighed jokingly. It felt like I was already taking care of her and she wasn't even drunk yet.

We walked inside and sat down right at the bar. I was ready to get pissed and forget about the real world for a few hours when I turned around to order out drinks.

"Hi, can we-" I froze. Rio turned around and his eyes met mine. I was too stunned to speak.

He was my first boyfriend. From my first serious relationship. Holy shit. I felt my best friends eyes on me and my throat went dry.

So many memories bubbled up from just looking at him. Good memories, bad memories. Everything. I suddenly remembered our last fight. The shouting, the crying, me walking out and never looking back. We just looked at each other waiting for one another to speak. It was so raw. Too raw.

"We'll have two rum and cokes please." Liza broke the intense silence. I turned to look at her and gave her a smile of relief.

"Coming up." He spoke after clearing his voice and turned around.

"You wanna leave?" Liza asked. That was probably the last thing I wanted to do. For some reason I felt compelled to stay there.

"No, we can stay." I reassured and she hit me with a look of uncertainty.

"You sure?" She responded and I nodded.

Rio turned around and handed us our drinks with a wide smile that I didn't know I missed until I saw it.

"That's £15.98 please," he said to Liza while looking straight at me. She reached into her bag and got her card out so she could pay as Rio and I maintained eye contact.

The night continued with Liza enjoying herself and me trying to keep up with her but my mind was distracted after that encounter.

"I'm gonna get another drink." I shouted over the music and Liza nodded. She was already occupied with a guy she had met that night. I was amused by how she well she had guys wrapped around her finger.

I made my way back to the bar and sat down. I caught sight of Rio and my heart started to beat even faster. When he inched closer to me I started to internally panic.

"Hi," he breathed out and smiled at me. We were mature adults now, there was nothing stopping us from having a decent conversation.

"Hi Rio," I replied while trying to get a grip.

"What can I get you?" He asked and I frowned a little. I wanted him to ask how I was. How things were going. Not to ask me what drink I wanted. I know he was doing his job but I wanted him to care like I did.

"Another rum and coke please." I spoke and he nodded. He walked back to prepare my drink.

"£7.99 right?" I asked and he smiled.

"It's on me," he replied and I matched his smile.

"Thank you."

I took a sip ad picked up my phone. Rio hadn't moved an inch.
