I catch Sam's eye as we sit in the circle the next morning. He hasn't been looking at any of us the whole time we've been sitting in here. Reyes was a few minutes late-all of us were seated before she even got here and Sam just seems...off. I moved my seat so I'm sitting in between Sam and Illyana now, and I'm glad that I've finally caught Sam's eye. I give him a smile, and as Reyes begins talking I look down, away from Sam, and up at her.
"Today, I'd like to talk about obedience." She tells us, and I notice Illy is sitting with her knees up to her chest, Lockheed in between her knees. "If you want any hope of moving on to my superior's facility, it's crucial that I know you can be trusted." Sam raises his hand a bit, and she looks absolutely intrigued by him doing this. "Yes?"
"What if we don't want to move onto your bosses facility?" All of us look at him, and I furrow my brows. Something isn't right. Something changed. "What if I just wanna go home?"
"Sam, you remember what happened. You think they stopped looking for you? If you weren't here, you'd be in prison, or worse."
"It was an accident!"
"You think anyone outside of this room would believe that?"
"I would." Dani speaks up, sitting up straighter. My mind has officially changed on her. Maybe she's not as annoying as I thought she'd be. "Sam's a good guy!"
"Even if I'm not, do I really have to spend my whole life in here for one mistake?"
"Once you're better-"
"And when am I better?" Sam's shouting now.
"What's gotten into you, Sam?"
"Look, something's not right! I'm seeing things, terrible nightmares! When will I ever get better?"
"You're better when I say so."
"No, forget it, it's bullshit." Sam shakes his head, moving his chair back as he gets up and walks out of the lounge. "You're not listenin' to me!"
Reyes makes eye contact with Dani before walking out after Sam, and Roberto follows suit. Lockheed is whispering things to Illyana, but I don't bother to listen. I look around at Dani, Rahne and Illyana, but none of us say anything. I sigh and get to my feet, rushing out of the room and walking to Reyes' office.
