"Sopheet limbo om limbotance!" I hear Illyana's shouting, and a portal from Limbo opens up at the top of the stairs. She comes flying out, her eyes bright blue and her arm completely transformed. She cuts the first one's chest, ramming the next into a wall and turning around to finish off the first one. Sam's eyes widen, and I can't help but grin. She spins around and teleports in front of the third one, who was reaching out to grab me, and kills it immediately. She almost hits Sam, but manages to stop herself and teleport in front of the last one standing, cutting him open. The pieces remaining of him drop to the floor.
"Where the hell did you go?" Sam's voice is slightly raised as Illyana looks around at the remains of the men, catching her breath. She looks at Sam, and then looks at me with a loose smile on her face.
"Our special place." She answers.
"That was so hot." Berto says, and when I turn I realize that he was hiding behind me. I can't help but shoot him a glare, and Illyana transforms her arm back to normal. Sam and Berto rush up the stairs past her, and she puts her hands on my waist to steady me when I try doing the same but stumble.
"Are you okay?" She asks, and I sigh, shaking my head.
"Something...something's wrong." I manage to tell her, and I notice that Berto and Sam have stopped at the top of the stairs, waiting for us to catch up to them.
"You're hurt?"
"It's not like that. I...I'm not bleeding, n-none of that, I just..." I take a deep breath, squeezing my eyes shut for a moment. I put my hands in between both of us, trying my hardest to summon even the smallest shadow. It works-I summon one-but it's not nearly as dark as any I've summoned before, and it doesn't even feel as strong as the ones I've summoned before this. I allow it to go away, and Illyana holds my hand as we walk up the stairs after the boys. They lead us into Reyes' office, where Rahne is pacing as Dani sits in Reyes' chair. I sit on one of her more sturdy file cabinets, taking off my sweatshirt. It's hot as hell in here.
"What the hell's going on?" Berto asks Rahne. "Where's Doctor Reyes?"
"She tried to kill Dani." Rahne says, and my eyes widen. That's what she meant when she said that I wasn't the only one she had to hurt tonight. Illyana walks over to another file cabinet, kneeling down and rifling through the contents.
"What?" Sam asks in complete disbelief.
"That test? It wasn't a test. She tried to kill her."
