Autumn Afternoons and Winter Mornings

Winter afternoons
I forgot how it felt to drown in bed
I choked back tears at school just to submit to them at home

I woke up the next morning
Sore throat, red eyes; stuffy nose
I was ill
But not just physically
I pleaded
She let me

I fall back into the pool on my pillow
The sound of sobs soothes me to sleep
Sun's up
I re-soak my pillow

You're there
A few kilometers away
But I'm here.
Choking on tears.
