Expect the Unexpected

Chapter 3

Once the final school bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Chloe and Ashley quickly packed their things and headed out the door and into the hallway. As the two girls continued on walking down the never end hallways, many of the students kept staring, their gazes filled with questions.

"Is she Chloe's twin sister?"

"What was her name again?"

"It was Soleil you dummy! Weren't you listening to the teacher?"

"She's pretty aloof if you ask me."

"Hey, be nice! Didn't your mom teach you not to insult a girl? Sheesh! What an idiot!"

Many more whispers along those same lines kept drifting to the two girls ears as the excited the school building. Once they were out of the crowded hallways, both Chloe and Ashley sighed in relief.

"Oh my gosh," Ashley muttered under her breath, "are the other students like this all the time? Or is just when new kids join the class?"

It was silent for a few moments before Chloe finally spoke up. "Some of them are like that most of the time, but most of them get really excited when a new student comes along."

Ashley sighed again and fixed her braid, it had come half undone during the last half of the day.

"Let's head back to the lab," Chloe said after a short while. Ashley nodded and with that, the two girls began to make there way back to the lab.

When they got there, they saw Goh waiting for them.

"Hey," Goh said. "If you really are a Zorua, then you can change to look like any Pokémon. Can you show me Mew?"

"Not right now, Goh." Chloe said. "We have homework to do."

"Oh come on!" Goh said. "If your a Pokémon then you don't actually need to do your homework. Pokémon don't need school."

"It's not my thing," Ashley admitted, before noting Chloe's quick look of disappointment before she hid it, making her glad that what she was about to say would help. "But it is important for my disguise. Plus, being with Chloe makes it easier to bare."

"Oh come on," Goh said not noticing the smile Chloe sent her. "She loves school too much not to make it harder to deal with."

"I have to go." Chloe said, heading to her room, but stopping before she left when she heard Ashley.

"Two things." Ashley said. "One, that's rude. Two, she's my friend, and being with a friend makes everything easier, and she definitely made it easier, I don't think I could have got through the day without her."

"Oh please." Goh scoffed. "I've tried going to school with her before. She made it a lot harder, especially with her nagging about homework."

"If I didn't you would have failed." Chloe yelled before leaving, trying to slam the door, only for Ashley to catch the door and leave with her, and calming her down. "Sorry. You didn't have to come with me. I know you don't like school either."

"It's fine." Ashley said. "I went to school in Alola, which made me more accepting after realizing school can be a lot more fun then when I went as Ash back in Pallet Town. I was bullied a lot. I actually had fun at least when not dealing with the gossip, and now I can get a diploma as Ashley, well, Soleil, but it is fine."

They then spent the next several hours doing their homework, while Goh kept trying to get Ashley to show him Mew, afterwards they decided they needed to get away from him, and searched out Professor Cerise.

"Hey dad." Chloe called, getting his attention. "Goh, is getting annoying. Do you have any research trips we can take to get away from him?"

"I'm not annoying!" Goh said coming in behind them.

"There are two research tasks you can do." Professor Cerise said, it was pretty clear to both Chloe and Ashley that was was used to ignoring Goh, and glad that his actions made Chloe want to help him in his work, even if it is just to get away from Goh. "The first one is too investigate wierd energy signatures in Sinnoh. The other is there are reports of an abandoned truck somewhere on the outskirts of a city somewhere in Kanto that Mew has been seen living under, though which city is unknown."

"Really!" Goh said. "Look out Kanto, I'm going to every city until I find that truck, and catch Mew."

With that he ran off, while Ashley and Chloe looked at each other. "Guess we'll take Sinnoh."

"Alright," Cerise said. "It's been happening around the new Twinleaf Town Contest Hall during a contest. You'll need to either sneak in during the contest or sign up to compete in the contest."

"It will probably be easier to compete," Chloe said. "Security will be highest during the contest. I just hope I don't fail."

"Don't worry," Ashley said. "I'll help."

"Thanks, sis" Chloe said hip bumping Ashley, before heading to pack after getting the tickets from her dad.
