Expect the Unexpected

Chapter 9

"So, are you going now?" Dawn asked Chloe and Ash, currently disguised as Soleil, after the contest was over with Chloe winning when in the finals. Eevee taught Ash Copycat and they used it for the win.

"We're going back home," Chloe said with a sad smile forming on her face. "We came here to investigate the strange energy readings in the contest, and now that that is done and over with, it's time to go home and report what we found. And plus we have school, there's a test coming up soon that me and Soleil need to study for."

"Don't remind me," Soleil sighed, tugging at her braid and staring down at her feet. "I don't do well in academic classes, the Pokémon school back in Alola understood this. And as such, the lessons they taught us were designed for people like me that learned better by doing hands-on learning rather then reading out of a textbook."

"Don't worry," Chloe said, smiling gently while patting her back. "I'll help you study, in a way that you can understand."

"I sure hope so," Soleil said with a soft smile directed towards Chloe. "If I'm going to play your twin I will need to get smarter to fit in."

"Let's get your mind off it with a regular non-contest double battle," Zoey suggested, "me and Dawn versus Soleil and Chloe."

After giving Soleil an appraising look, Chloe smiled and agreed. Chloe sent out Eevee, Soleil would have used Pikachu, but while watching the contest he had had way too much ketchup flavored popcorn, so she used Umbreon. Dawn used Buneary while Zoey used Gallade for the type advantage.

Buneary started off with Dizzy Punch but Chloe had Eevee dodge and retaliate with Copycat, knocking Buneary back confused. Gallade went in for a Close Combat only for Umbreon to block it with Protect before using a Shadow ball. Buneary then tried to use ice beam but was so confused she froze herself. Gallade used Focus Blast on Eevee only for Umbreon to catch it with psychic and send it back while using dark pulse to coat it as it passed, preventing Gallade from catching it with it's own psychic power. Umbreon then used Shadow ball while Eevee copycatted it to send both at Gallade knocking him out, before Eevee used tackle to break Buneary free of the ice, and Umbreon used psychic to grab the ice shards and used them as an improvised ice shard attack, knocking it out the rest of the way. And giving them the win.

"That was fun!" Soleil laughed while returning Umbreon back to her pokeball. "But we'd better get going before we miss our plain back to Kanto."

Soleil and Chloe then headed for the airport where they were dismayed to see the last flight of the day had just left less then a minute ago. Disheartened they got a ticket for the first plane the next day, while they then headed to a Pokémon center and got a room for the night before heading home the next day, and getting back to the lab too late to go to school that day.
