Something yanks him to the ground away from me. I finally let the tears fall not believing what could have happened. I look down to see Hugo wrestling with the guy on the ground. Alex comes in front of me blocking my vision of what is happening. Seeing my shock he picks me up and walks me to his dorm. Once there he puts me on his bed, turns off the lights and leaves locking the door behind him. The adrenaline leaves my system, making me fall into a restless sleep.
Thrashing around in my sleep, I let a scream escape me. Shooting up right, I start scratching at my skin trying to stop the agonising pain. Everywhere on my body is pain. My bones, my muscles and my veins are all in agonising pain. All I can do is scream and cry. My door bursts open and all the boys run in scanning for danger. I don’t bother looking at them and continue to scream and scratch at my skin. My nails start to grow larger into sharp points.
“MAKE IT STOP!” I scream. “MAKE IT STOP. MAKE IT STOP. MAKE IT STOP”
“Shit,” Hugo swears. “Alex grab her, we need to go down towards my dorm.” Arms grab me from underneath my body. All I could do was let out another pain filled scream.
“She is hot,” says Alex feeling my forehead as we walk downstairs. “Too hot to be human. Alpha, I think she is transforming.”
“No she can’t,” replies Hugo. “Not here.” I let out another agonising scream.
“We have got to hurry up then,” says Alex quickening his pace. “I don’t think she can last much longer.” Hugo comes in front of me running backwards and looks directly into my eyes.
“You will not shift,” he says in a firm voice. “You will shift when I say.” Letting out another scream, I brake eye contact.
“She is starting to change,” says Alex in a panic.
“Damn it,” replies Hugo. “Fuck it. Give her to me.” Alex passes me over to Hugo. Hugo run faster then any human down to their dorm. My bones start to reform right when Hugo got to the dorm. Quickly opening the door, he rushes in and places me on the bed and moves back.
“Shift,” says Hugo in the same tone as earlier. I feel my bones move around, causing me excruciating pain in all of my joints. Fur starts to replace skin. My face elongates to form a snout. My hands shrink to make paws. My eyes shrink. My ears start growing up to form a wolfs ear. My tailbone extends to form a tail. I howl, but continue to feel the same pain. Then I pass out.
Opening my eyes with a groan, I sit up. Around me are all the guys asleep. At the foot of my bed is Alex. I lightly shake him to wake him up.
“Alex,” I whisper, shaking him again.
“Hmmm,” he replies half asleep. “What Tash?” I giggle slightly to myself at his response.
“Wait,” he says waking up and trying to put two and two together. “TASH!” he screams. All the guys in the room jump at the sudden noise that breaks the peaceful silence. Alex immediately jumps up and leaps onto my lap, squeezing me to death.
“Can’t breathe,” I barely get out. Alex moves back and the next person attacks my lungs. I look down and see all of the guys pounce on my to try to squeeze me to death. “You… guys… really… want… me…gone,” I huff out. They all let go of my middle section to allow me to take a full breath of air.
“How are you?” asks Alex. “Any pain?”
“No,” I reply tilting my head to the side.
“Ok,” comes his reply. “We have a long conversation ahead of us so get comfy.” I wriggle around on the bed and find a comfortable spot. I place a pillow on my lap and hug it tight.
“Ok,” I say after a while. “I am comfortable so lets talk.”
“First off,” says Hugo starting to get to the point. “Do you want to talk about yesterday at the party?”
“What happened yesterday at the party?” I ask not understanding why he asked the question. Then it all hit me. The guy with red hair at the pool table. Drinking a bit much. Going outside with him. Not enjoying myself. Hugo punching him. Alex taking me away. “Yeah, I don’t need to talk about yesterday. I remember it, unfortunately.”
“Great,” says Charlie trying to relieve the tension in the room. “One less awkward conversation.”
“Another thing we wish to talk about,” starts Hugo trying to get to the point. “What do you think about werewolves?” I let out a scoff.
“That they are not real,” I say. “That they are a story made up so that children don’t go into the woods.”
“Well,” replies Hugo. “They are real. In fact, everyone in this school is a werewolf.”
“What,” I say not believing one word of it. “Your joking. Funny joke guys. Ha Ha.” Nobody else was laughing around the room. “Wait your serious.” I sit up straighter and hug the pillow more.
“No we are not joking around,” said Charlie in a rare serious voice. “This is our lives. We are werewolves. We change when we want. We eat what we want, but there are rules. These rules will be changing now that you know but it will be the same.”
“Why are the rules changing?” I ask, trying to keep up with the conversation.“Because you know now,” answers Alex. “We don’t have to have half the rules we had before. And besides now that you are one of us we don’t need to hide.” Whipping my head in his direction I stare directly in his eyes.
“Are you saying that I am one of you?” I ask. “A… A… werewolf.”
“Yes,” replies Hugo. “You just had your first change.”
“What,” I say not understanding one word of it. I see Alex start to get angry at me not computing this information quick enough.“You. Are. A. Werewolf. Like. Us. Get. It. Through. Your. Thick. Skull!” Charlie says getting more angry by the minute. Alex walks up behind him and kisses him on the forehead and he seems to calm down.
“EVERYONE OUT,” I scream out, my head bursting with questions, information and confusion. They all exit the room and leave me alone with my raging thoughts. I’ve got to get out of here. I can not stay here another minute.
