Chapter 10

The night had settled in San Francisco.

Ford and the HALO Unit had manage to descend into the city. It was a nightmare, even before reaching the earth. Ford was going through an actual monster horror film with how he and the unit first bypass the flashes of lightning and could only hear the sound of their own breathing through the oxygen mask.

His heart dread to think what of his wife and son for the city was a sea of desolation. Ford prayed civilians were alive and well of taking shelters in case of a catastrophe. Of course, never has humanity faced giant monsters, which is what he and the team saw on the way down.

Ford saw Godzilla fighting against Hokmuto. The pair tore down skyscrapers like cardboard. He couldn't hear Godzilla roar given the terminal velocity he and the unit fell from kept him from hearing anything but his own breathing. If he could hear them, his eardrums would have split.

As terrifying that was of being danger close to the massive Titans, Ford thanked God that he was able to parachute safely once reaching the required height for the cute to fly out and give him a slow and steady landing. Ford knew he was not of danger for he and the team were close to the fighting monsters, though on the way down he was certain Godzilla handled herself well so she can handle Hokmuto.

"Take position! Take position!" Ford heard the captain call out and rushes over to join the rest to discuss strategy from here on out.

"I saw Team 1 move to the east. Two of our team members didn't make it. I heard bits and pieces on the radio. Snipers on the rooftop moving into position." Informed a soldier of the casualties before even arriving into the city.

"Here we go." One takes out a tracking device. "Picking up the nuke."

"Which way?" The captain inquires.

"One klick up the hill." The soldier responds.

"Alright, we found the warhead. Let's go! Up the hill, this direction. Move." The captain orders his team.

The team makes there way through the street by jogging with snipers above to cover them. They get closer to their destination with clouds of debris obscuring ahead. The team takes cover behind vehicles laid out on the street.

"Hey. Hey." The captain calls out to Ford. He gestures to him observe ahead and watch closely. "Look."

Ford does so. Looking ahead, where Chinatown is at and Femuto is nested, Ford looks through a Shattered window door of the vehicle, he sees a clawed foot, belonging to Femuto, who warbles as she came into view. Femuto let out the equivalent of a mother giving birth cry towards the sky. Looking closely, and to their disgust, Ford and the team saw Femuto depositing her eggs from her egg sac into the nest she built underground beneath her. The sickening sound of oozing and squishing noises makes them cringe.

That was the least of their concern.

The sound of debris crashing and a rumbling stomp grabs their attention. From the obscuring cloud of dust and debris they see a tail cutting above the cloud, floating close to the roofline of the building structures of the Chinatown section. The massive figure steps out from the cloud. Emerging out is Godzilla.

Every soldier, including Ford feels their heart race and adrenaline kicking in. Ford may have witnessed Godzilla back at the airport of Honolulu, though it was at a distance. Here he was up and close personal; and she was terrifying by being a few feet away. What's worse is Ford and the team were in the middle between Godzilla and Femuto.
