"Wake up, sleepy head.", a rough voice whispered in your ear.
Torn from sweet dreams, your eyes popped open a crack wide. Light flooded your vision and for a moment you went blind.
Hands grabbed your face. Then there was the gentle touch of lips covering your cheeks with kisses.
With a grumble of protest, you shook your head, but Johnny refused to let go of you.
"We're late again.", he said, squishing your cheeks.
Lips pressed together like a fish, you tried to strike blindly at him but he pulled his head back with a laugh.
"If we're already late then it doesn't matter.", you mumbled and yawned.
A body snuggled up to you.
"Do you want to pluck weeds again?", he asked as his chin rested on your head.
"How many weeds can grow in this temple?", you snuggled up to his chest.
The beat of his heart filled your ears, steady and calm but also a little excited. You couldn't see it, but you could feel the corners of his mouth tugging upwards.
"You have to get up.", he insisted.
Groaning, you rolled your eyes.
"Few more minutes."
"Whatever you want.", he breathed a kiss to your forehead.
"A few more minutes and I'll throw up.", Kenshi's sour voice suddenly rang out.
Torn from your sleep, your eyes opened abruptly. All at once you were awake, as if someone had poured a bucket of icy cold water over you.
The first thing you saw was the loving expression on Johnny's face. He gently nudged you with his nose and stole a kiss from your lips.
Still trapped in the half-sleep of your brain, you let it happen without protesting.
"Urgh!", Kung Lao gave you both a look as if you were doing unspeakable things in front of him.
Confused, you stared at the others who were about to get into their uniforms for the day. Kenshi's expression was as grim as ever. He seemed completely disgusted by what he saw. Like a big brother meeting his little sibling's new boyfriend for the first time.
"Can't you do that when it's dark?", Kung Lao asked soberly while he was busy arguing with his black belt, as usual.
Blinking, you looked round. Then to Johnny, who looked as enamoured as a human being could. And then your gaze jumped back to the others.
It was bright, but not broad daylight. Wind swept through the windows and across the wooden floor. Cold but not icy. It must be early in the morning.
"What are you doing here?", your tongue was still heavy from sleep. "And why are you wearing your uniform?"
Johnny gave you a broad smile and shrugged.
"Today is important.", he said with a pout. "I just want to look after you. So that your education isn't neglected."
Offended, you frowned.
"You're the one who always falls asleep in class!"
"And you two are the ones who make the worst impression of us all.", grumbled Kenshi. "Get up now. We'll be late otherwise."
"I thought we are already late...", you struggled to get back on your feet.
A yawn made you stumble, but Johnny caught you. Your back bumped against his strong chest.
"Shall I help you get dressed?", he asked over your shoulder, his breath tickling your neck.
Immediately, your body reacted. Goose bumps grew all over.
"That's too much even for me now...", Raiden slipped out of the room with a disturbed expression on his face.
"Wait for me!", Kung Lao jumped after him. "I don't want to be alone in a room with those two lovebirds. Who knows what they'll do!"
The sliding door slammed shut with a loud bang. The wood trembled.
Groaning, you rubbed your face with both hands.
"Too early...", you sighed and freed yourself from Johnny's embrace.
He raised his arms enthusiastically.
"Did you hear that?", the grin on his face couldn't have been bigger. "They totally ship us!"
You only listened to him with one ear. You had to force the other half of your brain to help you get dressed. Without a plan, you rummaged blindly in the drawer where you had stowed your belongings and pulled out an orange monk's uniform to smell it.
"Clean enough...", you grumbled with a sour expression and disappeared behind a room divider.
Johnny mischievously tried to stretch his neck to catch a glimpse.
"Don't.", you grabbed his face with your whole hand to push him back to his place on the other side.
"Pretty please?", he gave you his best puppy-dog eyes.
Snorting, you pressed your lips together and shook your head.
"Two minutes.", you said, and disappeared again.
Putting his hands on his hips, he dutifully did as he was told and put some distance between you to give you privacy.
"Do you realise how long two minutes can be?", he asked thoughtfully. "I once auditioned for a film. The longest two minutes of my life."
"Ten things Johnny says after sex.", you laughed.
"Hey!"
"The template was too good not to use.", you quickly darted out of the corner to plant a kiss on his nose before you left the room.
You were already standing with one foot in the corridor when he pulled you back by the collar.
"East now.", turning you by both shoulders, he gently forced you to look at him. "This is wrapped wrong."
Smoothly, his hands set about loosening your belt and adjusting your uniform so that the monks had nothing to complain about.
You watched him with a gentle expression on your face. A snort escaped you.
His eyes travelled up to ask you a silent question. One of his eyebrows raised expectantly.
"It's kind of deja vu.", you said with a grin and placed another kiss between his eyebrows. "I told you the same thing a few months ago."
Now he had to chuckle too.
"Look at us.", he said in a sassy undertone.
"Who would have thought?"
"Not me."
You both had to laugh.
Although it had been a bit strange after your first kiss, you had managed to get closer to each other.
Now you were like a couple, even if it wasn't officially agreed. It was more like a relationship of trust with a few extras.
Secretly, you could imagine being more, but it was just as good as it was and you didn't want to jinx it.
"All nice.", proud, Johnny showed you his work. "But on a more serious note, we should get going. We're late."
"For real? Or are you just saying that so that I won't be late this time?"
He smirked snuggly.
"Can't it be both?", he asked with a grin.
