"Sooo... how do you feel about your choice?", with a soft expression Johnny took your face into his hands, thumbs brushing over your cheeks.
Sighing softly, you closed your eyes and allowed yourself to dive into the warmth of his touch for a moment.
"I don't regret.", you said. "Actually, I'm relieved."
"You could have been champion."
The sound of something flickering through the air appeared behind the small tremble building behind which the two of you had taken a moment for yourselves.
"I don't want to be champion, Johnny.", you frowned. "I'm... fine the way it is."
"Really?", one of his eyebrows rose.
It was strange that he asked so many times though it felt like he just wanted to make sure you didn't have any regrets later on.
"Yes.", you stretched your neck to brush the tip of your nose against his in a soft manner. "I'm happy just the way this is. Especially... this..."
He smiled, lines forming around his eyes and cheeks.
"Good (Y/G).", he breathed a quick kiss to your forehead before he turned on his heel.
Together, the two of you joined the rest of the group who had already gathered around Liu Kang.
"Outworld can be both alien and intoxicating to Earthrealmers.", the god of fire warned as he moved his arms to create a whirlpool of flames before him. "Do not become drawn in. You must focus on the task at hand."
With those words he stepped through the portal that had come from his creation. And all of a sudden he was gone, wiped off the face of earth.
The beating of your heart hammered against your throat. You could feel the warmth of the flames lick across your face.
Your brain knew that you'd be burned to ashes as soon as you'd come in contact with this whirlpool of rotating fire. Yet there was this believe that it was okay to put your trust in magic.
It wouldn't burn. You wouldn't burn.
Just for reassurance you let your eyes wander along the others.
Raiden was the first to step through the portal. He didn't hesitate nor did he falter in his choice. As unshakable as always.
Kung Lao followed his friend with equal amount of confidence.
While Kenshi was about to enter as well, Johnny pushed him his phone into the face. Annoyed, the swordsman pushed his arm away.
Johnny protested but remembered his mission quickly again and went on to film your reaction instead. With a soft smile and a shake of your head you threw him a middle finger before jumping through the portal as well.
He was the last to leave Earthrealm.
It was an odd feeling to travel between realms.
Your body felt so heavy yet light. As if it had no weight at all.
Your legs carried you on although there was no ground to walk on. Every step went into nothing. And then, within the blink of an eye, there was light.
You weren't sure if the seconds before that had been dark. Your brain failed to remember as soon as the strange state was over.
Suddenly there was a blue sky. Clouds stretched above your head and the scent of violets was in the air.
A soft breeze made branches tremble. Leaves whistled a song of calmness and peace.
It took your brain a moment to realise that you walked next to Johnny again. His broad shoulder brushed yours. Quickly, his eyes jumped to glance at you from the corner of his vision.
He still kept his phone recording. No, it wasn't a recording. He was live-streaming.
Unsure how wise of a decision that was you tried to pull your head in to escape the wide angle of his iPhone. But he made a point to get a full body shot of yours.
Pride flickered in his eyes.
Why was he so excited to broadcast your face to the masses of his fanbase?
Thought, you had to admit that it felt flattering.
"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.", he smirked and made sure to take in everything of the scenery.
Blossoms of strangely looking flowers sailed through the soft breeze of the day.
Below your feet stretched a large carpet woven from violet fabric. Golden embroidery framed the sides. It looked so expensive you felt bad walking across it.
Just at the end of the pathway made of stone two women stood at the top of stairs.
One was dressed in a kind of magenta armour while the other had her curves adored by blue and silver. It only needed one look to know that they were of noble heritage.
Even without the many soldiers who stood by, shields raised, spears in hand. They were all women.
"Oh my.", Johnny suddenly chirped. "Are those..."
"Empress Sindel's daughters, yes.", Liu Kang interrupted before he could say something that would turn out in a disadvantageous way.
"They do NOT disappoint.", with a smug expression, Johnny turned to the side to glance at Raiden, eyebrows raised.
Somehow that was enough to place a sting in your heart. Or maybe it was just your pride. Whatever it was, you did not appreciate the feeling of it.
A little sour, you pulled a face as Johnny's eyes fell onto you. He chose not to react to it. Or maybe he was too oblivious in this moment to notice.
"We are Earthrealm's ambassadors, Johnny. We'll show them respect.", Raiden said with a slight roll of his eyes. "Not unwanted attention."
Still oblivious, Johnny winked in a kind of sarcastic manner and took the lead so that he could be the first to greet the two very attractive warrior princesses.
Annoyed, you frowned and let a slight tsk be heard.
"Not a good look.", Kung Lao whispered into your ear from behind. "Jealousy doesn't suit you."
"I'm not jealous.", you said and pushed his head back over your shoulder so that he'd stay in his lane.
"I'm not an expert.", Kenshi admitted from the side. "But that does smell like jealousy to me."
You gifted him a warning glance.
"Do you want me to ask Johnny if I can have Sento?", you asked, lips pursed. "He'd give it to me."
Now it was Kenshi who growled with annoyance.
