Rosalie wakes up a couple of hours later, rubbing her eyes to help chase sleep away. She looks down at her watch and knows she still needs to go to her lab and do some work before she can call it a day, having skipped lunch altogether.
She kisses Evan on the forehead and makes her way out of the infirmary, waving at Beckett as she goes. It has been a month from Hell, and it came to it's peak that morning with Airman Nelson's memorial service.
Rosalie has been through the ringer the past thirty days and she knows it's not over yet. It won't be over until Evan is awake and teasing her for worrying too much. Until that happens, she will keep spending her mornings in the infirmary and try to work in the afternoons.
As she walks to her lab, deep in thought, she bumps into Elizabeth.
-"Are you okay?" - The first words coming out of Elizabeth's mouth are enough to make Rosalie want to cry again.
-"Just tired, but I'll be okay."
-"How's Lorne?"
-"The same. I just came from there. There's still no change."
-"Rosalie, I spoke with General O'Neill about Lorne's condition and..."
-"And, what?" - Now Rosalie is scared.
-"And, he agrees with me. He thinks that it would be better if Lorne returned to Earth."
-"Can't you give him some more time? I'm sure he will wake up soon. Please, Elizabeth, just give him some more time."
-"Lorne has given no signs of that, Rosalie." - Elizabeth's voice is soft, trying her best not to upset the linguist even more than she already is.
-"Evan's a fighter, Elizabeth. He will wake up. I know he will."
-"Alright. Listen, I will give him some more time, but if he doesn't wake up soon, I'll have to make the call and have him transferred to the SGC." - Elizabeth concedes, letting out a sigh.
-"Okay. Thank you, Elizabeth. You'll see I'm right. Evan will wake up."
Elizabeth nods at her and sees Rosalie leave, after hugging her and thanking her again. She admires the woman's faith in the Major, and she has to admit that she has the same hope as Rosalie. But there will come a moment where she will have to make a hard decision and she isn't sure how the linguist is going to react to it. Elizabeth can only hope that she won't lose one of the best linguists she has ever worked with and had the privilege of calling a friend.
Rosalie decides to skip her lab and go straight to her quarters, tears welling up in her eyes. As soon as the doors close behind her, she slides down to the floor and starts crying. She knows she is right, that Evan is a fighter and that he will wake up soon, but what if she's wrong and Elizabeth is right? What if he doesn't wake up? Then what?
She shakes those thoughts out of her mind, standing up and walking over to her bed. Rosalie decides to do something she hasn't done in years, and kneels down by the edge of her bed.
-"God? I know we haven't been on very good terms in the last few years, but I don't know who else to turn to. I need Your help. I know You and me have had our ups and downs and haven't really talked in a few years, but the help I'm asking for is not for me, it's for Evan. He's in a coma, and has been for the last month, as You well know, and there have been no signs of him waking up. All I ask is that You help him wake up." - Rosalie lets out a breath as tears start falling. -"Please, help him. He's a good man and didn't deserve what happened to him. Please don't make me say goodbye to him. I've already lost too many people as is. If I lose him too, I... Please. I'm begging You. Help him."
Rosalie takes a deep breath. "This isn't working.", she whispers to herself, shaking her head.
-"Okay, you know what? This one goes out to anyone, any Deities, any Ancients, any Gods, anyone who has their hearing cap on. Please help me. Evan is a good man who always does what is right. Sure, sometimes he has to break some rules to do the right thing, but it always comes from a place of care, and compassion, and sometimes even love. He's in a coma right now because he was trying to do the right thing and save the men under his command. So, please help him. And if You wanna come to me later and ask for a price for me to pay in return for Your help, so be it. Just... Please help him. I love him and I'll do whatever it takes for him to come back to me. Please."
Rosalie is sobbing by the time she finishes her prayer. She doesn't know if anyone will listen, but she's not above groveling. She stands up and walks over to the small bar she has in her quarters, pulling out a bottle of Athosian wine, a gift from Teyla. She opens it and takes a swig straight from it.
Walking back over to the bed, she takes a couple more big swigs from the bottle before placing it on her bedside table and laying down. As she lays in her bed, she wishes that Evan was there with her, and starts remembering the month they spent together. She allows the memories to lull her to sleep.
