Afternoon. 3:30pm. Roosevelt's favorite part of the day. And the double doors be getting all the push and shove. I feel ya too.

It's like they're blocking the entries of prison and is like be gentle will ya? Jokes on them, knuckleheads attend this school.

I exhaled into the cold air as I leaned against Lily's red jeep, kicking pebbles to distract myself and trying not to notice Maddy and Luke on the hood of Lily's jeep showing PDA

"Try not to have multiple orgasm on my baby while you're at it," Lily's warning made the two pull away from each other faster than my wifi connection, blush creeping on Maddy's cheeks.

She gets in and so do I. Luke drives a bike so Maddy's settled in. I notice Lily's stiff posture as she stares out into nothingness.

Buckling my seatbelts, I reached into my pocket, pulled out a single penny and place it on her lap, "A penny for your thoughts?"

She laughs, a beautiful sound I don't think I'll ever get tired of. She's still laughing as she lifts up the penny. It's a perculiar one. My grandfather gave it to me as a souvenir. I used to think of it as a gold coin, a good luck charm, hence why I carry it around with me at all times. Her smile fades and she places the coin back in my hand.

The rain has started to pour, not even slowing down a little. Little droplets slide down the car window. She turns up the heat and we bath in a moment of silence. Thunder claps and lightning strikes. Poor Maddy.

Ah, thunderstorms. My favorite weather, letting me know that even the sky screams sometimes. It kinda relates to my mood and this silent treatment isn't helping.

"Charlie broke up with me".

That wasn't I had in mind but heck what? I slowly turn away from the window to look at her.

A single tear had slid down her cheek and she hasn't made an effort to wipe it away. I'm confused. Am I a bad friend if I tell her I don't know how to deal with heartbreaks? I don't know if I should comfort her or tell her everything's gonna be ok. I chose the latter.

"Oh, honey," I gasped, trying to sound surprised. Truth be told, I knew Charlie's true color before he got into AV club. That's a cover-up. I'm relieved too. Didn't like the guy either. Yeah, he's a perverted jackas–jerk. He's a jerk and a total loser. "What happened?"

"You're asking me as if I would know". Her lips quiver and I felt like dissolving into water and joining the crew in the puddle outside. "I don't even know what I did wrong. Am I not pretty anymore?"

Um, have you looked at yourself lately, girl? Anyone would kill to look like you. Of course you're pretty. You're the epitome of beauty.

If it was up to me, I would cut out his genitals and donate it to the hospital. At least that's a useful part of him.

"Stop saying that," I scolded her. "Charlie is a sore loser and he probably isn't a gentleman either. I bet he just wanted in on that popular lifestyle you got so he could get himself fans". I hope that didn't come out wrong. "Did something happen at the party though?"

She wiped her years and shrugged. "Not that I'm aware of, no. We were fine. At least I thought I was until–," her eyes widened before closing and sighed.

"Until...?" I urged her to continue.

"He wanted to have sex with me and I told him no," she rested her head back. By now, the rain has slowed down except for the thunder raging down on us. "He flipped out and left without a word. Today I wanted to apologise but he had other plans. I guess". She sniffed.

"I'm sorry what? Apologise? Lily you did nothing wrong,"I told her, matter-of-factly. "And I understand. You weren't ready and you were probably drunk. He could've taken advantage of you".

OK, he better start digging his grave because I will bury him alive with rodents.

"How would you know that? You've been single since birth and–"

"I'm educated and I read a lot".

She burst into laughter, throwing a ball tissue at me. "You're so lame at this". She sighs again, "thank you".

"For what?" I fidget with my bag strap. "I'm surprised I haven't torched his car yet".

She winces. "Actually, that's a brilliant idea. Should've told me sooner".

"The rain would've taken his side".

"Just a scratch maybe". She holds out her finger to show me how much. "No harm in estimating, though".

I chuckled, shaking my head at her attempt at a joke. She pulls out of the school parking lot and into the main road. Passing several houses, I zone out in the way. Reaching over to the middle, she hands me her aux and trusts me with her playlist.

"So, uh," she starts, when the familiar streets to my home came into view. "How about that girl's night?"

I cringed mentally. Imma about to stop y'all right there, readers. You might be wondering why isn't Azalea squealing like she's been given candies for good behavior? Girls night may sound appealing and fun and y'all be like yay! I'm so there. This is going to be a fun and exciting sleepover.

We'll binge watch crime documentaries (I love those by the way), eat ice cream while watching tragedy love stories and bawl our eyes out...blah, blah.

No, I don't think you're looking through my point of view here and see what (kinda rhymes with city)—situation I'm in. Have you no pity?

"I'll have to cancel," I blurted out, literally, which led our car to come to a screeching halt.

"I thought you wanted to make me feel better. Are you turning me down?" she asks with a strain voice.

I pause the music and crane my neck to look at her. Ha. She pulled the card on me. Come on, smarty, think with your wits.

"I can't. I promised mother dearest I'd have dinner with her. It's tradition I cook every sixteenth of every month". Fingers crossed she'll buy it. Please, please, pleas–

"I see,'' she muttered, looking away at the droplets and the condensation forming on her window. "Well, I'm coming to dinner then".

She starts the car and continues down the road. Well, that's not what I expected but at least I'm not going to see her brother.

A win is a win.
