I screamed too and flipped the lights back off. My heart nearly escaped from its cage. The lights flipped on again.

Are these girls tryna get me hospitalised this early in my life?

The camera flash blinded me for one second. Maddy smiled, "Hope you're not having a heart attack. Your face always gets me". She chuckled, handing me the picture she took of me. Wow. I do look like my heart was taken out for observation or something.

"What's the special occasion?" I could hear the uncertainty in my tone. It's not friendship Day nor is it Valentine's Day. Not international anime day or any other kind of special day that I know of. It's not my birthday either.

"Happy birthday!" Lily claps me on the back. I spoke too soon. She hands me her present and smiles at me, "open it".

"What are you talking about? It's not my birthday". I took in the red coloured box I have in my hands. It's slightly heavy, and moving and is wrapped up pretty well for a present. Most presents I get are either half wrapped or are made to be ripped off.

"OK," she rolls her eyes. "Let me ask you... when's your birthday?"

Tricky questions and easy enough. "Sixteenth of June," I said in a 'duh' tone. "It's not the six–" my phone begged to differ. "Wow. Look at that. A coincidence. Pfft. I didn't actually think–". I was rambling.

"Just open the frickin' present and make me giddy". I arched my brows and stared at the heavy thing in my hand. Heavy, wide and... moving. I bent down, crouched and opened the present. A bark first, furs, paws, loopy ears, wagging tail, blue eyes, a collar.

"This is..." I let my sentence trail off and lifted a puppy. Not just any puppy but a husky? The husky made sloppy licks on the side of my face. I put him down, and he ran off in search of food. "You remembered". I had been pestering my parents for a husky since the day I watched Iron Will.

"Why else would your mother let you go?" She smiled sheepishly. Leading me towards the stairs, the puppy on my trail, Maddy still in the kitchen, Lily grinned at me. Reaching the guest's bedroom, Lily closed the door behind us, "Tada!"

This is ecstatic. The bed is pushed to the side of the wall, three mattresses scattered on the floor, purple strobe lights lit up the dark room. On the nightstand, a cute little projector connected to Maddy's Chromebook.

"Movie night?" I swallowed hard. I have a physics pop quiz and biology. I can't waste my senior year on movies.

A knock, then several voices followed. "Please tell me it's only us?"

But Lily, the Bratz opened the door and led in pests. I reeled back, head down as my back hit the wall and the door almost slamming into me, blocking my view.

"Hell yeah!" One of Luke's friends say, his rowdy voice making me wince. I mean I've seen the body to which the voice belongs to. Lily met them with a
I'll kill you if you don't shut up look and led them out. More scolding perhaps.

The room was quiet for a while. The husky is nowhere to be found. I'm still resting against the wall. Taking deep breaths, I made my way out. I'll have to look for my present, grab the cake and Shazam outta here.

The half single step I made hadn't kissed the floor before a mop of black hair showed up and backed me inside. It was so fast, I didn't have time to master it.

We were back in the room and the lights had started to change a red colour. Believe that?
