Chapter 3. New Career Opportunity

Riah POV

I've been thinking about going back to work. I know I need a career change but what to change it too. I was sitting at my vanity doing my hair when Ryan called me.

"Hey boo." I said to him.

"Hey Riah girly. I called just was wondering if you want to come to brunch with me and hang out doing a little shopping."

"Of course babes. I'm actually doing my hair right now."

"Totally fab. I gotta do my hair too." We both giggled because he doesn't have hair. Let's meet up around noon at the Little Hen place on Miami Ave."

"Okay see ya soon." I kept doing my hair when Tommie came up behind me kissing my neck then my lips.

"Grand Rising baby."

"Good morning baby, how did you sleep?"

"I slept pretty good last night baby. What about you?"

"I slept amazing bae. Thanks for asking. Um Ryan asked me if I wanted to go to brunch and shopping." Tommie was in the bathroom doing her mornings routine.

"You going right? Which vehicle you want to take?"

"Yes baby, and the Benz truck."

"Just be safe and lightly drink baby. You can take my gun if you want."

"Baby I never gave it back, unless you took it back from me." I just chuckled walking back into the bedroom to where she was.

"No I didn't it's still should be in your Chanel purse." I did put it back. Montana gave me another one. (I thought to myself). I got up to look for my sparkly purse in my walk-in closet and found it.

"It was in here baby I gotta switch it to another purse." I took it from my sparkly Chanel purse to my black Chanel purse. I picked out a outfit to wear my Tropical White Hawaiian 2 Piece Short Sleeve Button Down Shirt and Shorts Tracksuit with my tropical White bucket hat to match. I also put on my custom Tiffany diamond necklace Tommie bought for me, I looked in my full body mirror to figure out what shoes ima wear then decided on my solid color beige round toe wedges. Then I walked out into the room to show Tommie my look.

"How I look baby and be honest."

"Bae honestly take off that bucket hat it is too hot for all of that."

"Okay the hat gone." I threw it back in my closet.

"Other than that you look beautiful baby."

"You serious baby don't just tell me anything."

"Bae I'm for real. Did you spray some perfume."

" I didn't even put on deodorant." I put both of those on.

"Why you so nervous baby you look gorgeous."

"Well because I'm new here, I'm tryna make some new friends and we got new phones iono have my bestie number or Rachel number. I feel like I'm incognito just my anxiety baby. I want to fit in with Ryan and this Miami lifestyle."

"Aww baby come here." She held out her arms for me to come to her. I just cried into her arms. She was wiping my tears away and kissing my forehead.

"Baby you're amazing. It's not gonna be hard to make friends here, I'm sure everything and everyone will reconnect it's just gonna take time. Pretty. Now stop that crying and go enjoy yourself. Here." she handed me her black card.

"Baby I got money remember silly." I wiped my face and put the card in my purse.

" You know that you spoil me." I just kissed her lips deeply.

"As I'm supposed to." Ryan was calling me.

"Hello."

"Hey baddie did you stand me up girly."

"Never Ryan. I'm about to leave out."

"Okay babes." I hung up the phone and went back in the bathroom to freshen up. I grabbed the Benz keys from our key holder and went downstairs to the garage. I pulled up to Little Hen and gave my keys to the valet person.

"Hey Riah gurl!" Ryan came over to me to hug me.

"Hey Ryan babes." I gave him a hug back.

We went into the restaurant to grab brunch. Then after we went shopping at the Bayside Marketplace.

"Riah gurl brunch was everything now we finna shop till we drop." Ryan was too excited.

"What we finna get?" "Honey I need something to wear for my new EMT course classes on Monday."

"For real that's dope Ryan."

"I'm tryna get my certification to save lives."

The more he went on about the classes the more I realized that EMT course classes wouldn't be bad for me to do.

"That legitimately sounds really great. I want to get back into a really nice career but I don't know."

"Babes come do it with me the EMT classes will be more fun if you're going to be there. I already know them hoes gone be dry and boring asl." Ryan was excited.

"I mean yeah I would love that."

"Okay gurl Students in the EMT program learn the basics of emergency care from child birth to splitting and managing cardiac arrest. We will have a time girly." Me and Ryan both bought scrubs and some other clothes for the classes.

Later that night I was extremely excited to tell Tommie about the course of the EMT program courses on Monday.

"Baby listen to this." We both was getting ready for bed. "Yes bae." She said putting on her durag.

"What do you think about EMT?"

"The ambulance? They save people lives sometimes. Why?"

"Umm I was just thinking about taking some courses with Ryan on Monday. It's not paramedics bae. It's to become a firefighter."

" You know that could be weeks of classes baby."

"Yea I really want to plus I will save lives un like most EMT people around. Riah most definitely will."

"Alright Ms.EMT lady, I think I need medical attention. I have a lot of smoke in my lungs."Tommie said fake passing out on the bed. Coughing. So I came over to her giving her mouth to mouth kisses as I climbed on top of her.

April 5th 2023
Our first day of EMT

Me and Ryan was in the lobby of Emergency Training Academy taking pictures before our class started. I was so happy to be here and ready for whatever. I'm really glad that me and Ryan met, we are like two peas in the pod. Our pictures got interrupted by this girl running through to class. So we decided that we should walk in.

"Welcome all my name is Mrs.Eve and I'll be your trainer course instructor to saving lives. Now this course program is 15 weeks long and includes lecture, skills labs and clinical experiences on ambulances and in an emergency department. I do advise that everyone take as much notes as possible. EMT Technician Applied Technology Diploma for Florida residents including tuition, special course fees, books, uniforms, and other fees ( insurance, background checks, drug screening, health physical) is $2000*​​. Now I'm not too old to about smoking weed because it is legal in the state of Florida, we test for other narcotics. Do anyone have a question for me?"

I Rise my hand. "Yes dear"

"Hi Mrs. Eve my name is Mariah Lenn, I just wanted to know What is the hourly rate for an EMT in Florida?"

"Great question Mariah, based on Florida, As of Nov 4, 2022, the average hourly pay for an Emt in Florida is $19.19 an hour." Ryan elbowed me showing me a money signal with his hand.

I just giggled at him, thinking about how much money I'll be getting. "There is no more questions let's get started on chapter one CPR certification." We all open our books, I took out my notebook to write down some notes.
