"Human! Human, wake up!" An unfamiliar voice whispered, shaking me awake.
Soft and dainty hands began pushing against my frail arms and I blinked my irises open, being met with another stranger that I hadn't yet been acquainted with.
                              Another vampire.
I rubbed at my sleepy eyes and sat up, stifling a yawn with the back of my hand. "I...Who are you?" I questioned with a quirked brow, staring into seemingly friendly hazel eyes.
"Well, human. I'm Giselle." The beautiful vampire greeted me with a kind smile. "I'm Anton's mate." She informed, her eyes shifting to the cell's ground.
I followed her gaze and saw that there was a tray filled with bread, strawberries and scrambled eggs at my side. "Why are you here? Where's Anton?"
Giselle pondered for a few seconds, but then opened her mouth to reply, "Anton was requested to handle a few misbehaving humans, so I came here to attend to your every need." She flashed me another grin and I couldn't help but notice that she and Anton were eerily similar to each other.
                              They really are mates.
I nodded my head at her, wondering silently to myself if 'handling misbehaving humans' meant killing and torturing them. I swallowed the bile in my throat at the thought. I turned my attention to the meal placed delicately down next to me. "Did Elizabeth go, as well? She seems like she'd be the type to jump right into those type of situations." I queried, my tone a bitter one.
"You know, human," Giselle started, sitting down in front of me, cross legged. "It's not very nice to speak such a way of your mistress. You wouldn't want to be punished, would you?" She asked me, almost as if it was the most normal thing to say in the world.
I snorted and placed a strawberry piece into my mouth, "She's not my mistress. Don't be ridiculous." I scoffed, rolling my blue hues.
"Oh, but she is. She is your mistress and you are her pet." Giselle gently patted the bruised skin of my exposed leg, an amused glint in her hazel eyes. "You'll understand soon enough, human."
"Are you...technically saying that I'm her mate?" My voice had raised a few octaves and I was trying hard to contain the laughter that was just waiting to be released. "You do realize Elizabeth wanted to kill me, just two weeks ago, right?"
"Our kind cannot mate with humans, Harley." It was the first time Giselle had spoken my name and she said it with such a reassuring hum, "We can either become mates with one vampire, or claim a human pet as our own."
"Do you have a 'pet'?" I finished my strawberries and pushed the remainder of the food away from me.
Giselle laughed melodically and shook her head from side to side. "No, no. We only get one or the other for the entirety of our eternal life. Or until the pet dies, that is."
Being a pet sounded incredibly similar to being a mate. But I guess the dead weren't allowed to be in an intimate relationship with their enemy, and the only realistic decision was to make their figuratively speaking, 'mate' - a pet. That way, things wouldn't be as complicated and it'd only look like they were using us humans as sexual slaves. Not as mates.
                              Such typical vampire behaviour.
"-And when a vampire's pet happens to die...?" I trailed off, gaze locked on the dirty lint on my ripped and dirty clothes.
"A vampire does not die along with their pet, Harley, but a part of them does. They will never be able to find someone else. They will never find someone who can fill their intimate void that most vampires badly crave. Pets are not replaceable. Nor are mates." Giselle jut out her bottom lip into pout formation. "I've never actually witnessed one of our people losing their partner, but I can only imagine how painful that would be."

The Vampire's Pet (GxG)
VampireI don't really remember how long I've been locked up in this godforsaken place. It seems like it's been forever. The only thing that I seem to remember is being tossed into a rusted cell and my ankle being chained up.
