Out of the Dark: 30 Days of Night (2007 movie) Fan-Fiction

Chapter 1

2 days before the month long night

**AMELIA'S POV**

Alaska; a beautiful and very chilly state. I had always wanted to visit Alaska. Now; I finally had the chance to do so. 

It was winter time, and very cold outside. I was on a plane; traveling to Alaska; to the town of Barrow, Alaska. I was traveling there for my work purposes. In the winter time, parts of the northern hemisphere experience what's called a month long polar night, or also called the 30 days of night. During this time; the nights last all month long, no sunlight at all for one whole month. It is nighttime everyday for one month . The sunlight comes back and rises after the month long polar night. 

I was traveling to the town of Barrow, Alaska; to capture photos and document the entire month long polar night. I was going to be staying the whole month, to get the full month long night experience and document everything. I'm a photojournalist. 

I was to meet with the sheriff's department of Barrow, since they had arranged my stay, along with the sheriff was to escort me around, so I could gather my documentation. 

The plane landed in Barrow, Alaska. I grabbed my bags, zipped up my heavy jacket, and walked off of the plane. The freezing cold air hit me immediately.  HOLY SHIT!  It was so cold. 

As I walking out of the airport; I looked up to see a police officer holding a sign with my name on it.  The police officer was a man. He was tall (taller than me), he had white skin, a clean shaven face; wearing a police uniform, a heavy police jacket, and a black beanie hat.  

HOT DAMN! This police officer was handsome!

I walked up to the police officer; as I carried my bags with me. 

"Hi, that's me" I said. 

I pointed at the sign with my name on it. The police officer smiled at me. 

"You must be Ms. Rhodes. Welcome to Alaska" The police officer said. 

"Thanks. I'm Amelia Rhodes, photojournalist" I introduced myself. 

"I'm sheriff Eben Oleson. It's nice to meet you Ms. Rhodes" The police officer introduced himself. 

"Nice to meet you Sheriff Oleson. Please you can call me Amelia. My boss calls me Ms. Rhodes" I said. 

"Please, call me Eben.  Everyone calls me that, since it's my first name" Eben said. 

Eben and I shook hands, and he placed my bags in his car. We were going to riding in his sheriff's squad truck.  I climbed into the passenger's seat, with Eben climbing into the driver's seat. We drove off, heading for Barrow. 

"How was your flight?" Eben asked me. 

"It was nice actually, quiet and peaceful" I said.

"Sorry that it's so cold here. We always have a freezing cold winter every winter" Eben said. 

"Oh that's alright. So; which of you will be escorting me around town?" I asked. 

"I will; it'll be me. I know this whole town like the back of my hand. I've got you covered" Eben said. 

"Alright cool. Thank you so much" I said. 

"No problem. So; how long have you been a photojournalist?" Eben asked me. 

"Since I was twenty three. I majored in photojournalism in college.  I graduated with my master's degree in photojournalism. I graduated from college when I was twenty three, and I began my career. I'm now twenty eight years old, and I've been a photojournalist for five years" I said. 

"Do you enjoy it?" Eben asked me. 

"Yes, I do. How long have you been the sheriff?" I asked. 

"I grew up here; me and my brother Jake. I went straight to police academy right out of high school, became the sheriff. Here I am; I'm now twenty nine years old. I've been the sheriff of Barrow ever since I finished the police academy" Eben said. 

"Do you like it?" I asked. 

"Yeah I do. I enjoy taking care of my town and everyone here" Eben said. 

"Well; at least you enjoy it" I said. 

We pulled into Barrow. This town was huge, and I could see a lot of people living here. A lot of people lived in Barrow, Alaska.  Snow covered the ground. 

"So; is there a motel here?" I asked. 

"Sadly no. We don't get tourists out here with the month long polar night. Plus, people leave the head south for the winter, then come back after that" Eben said. 

"Oh I see. So; where can I stay at?" I asked. 

"Well; I know we just met, but I have a spare guest room at my house. You can stay there" Eben said. 

"Are you sure? I don't want to impose or intrude" I said. 

"No, you're not imposing. I insist, since you came all this way" Eben said. 

"Does your brother live with you?" I asked. 

"Yeah; his room is downstairs. My room and the guess room are upstairs" I said. 

"Alright; thank you so much. I need to re-pay you, since I'll be staying the whole month" I said. 

"You don't need to pay me back" Eben said. 

"Are you sure? I don't mind" I said. 

"Here; send me some of the photos that you capture. We will post them around town, and make you known in the area" Eben said. 

"Alright; I can do that" I said. 

I was glad that Eben had offered my his guest room to stay in for the month. I know that I had just met Eben, but I was starting to like Eben. Eben was a very nice guy. 

Let the adventure begin. 

NOTE:  Well; Eben and Amelia have officially met.  I will be posting this story a lot.
