"The what?" Taylor asked him. "I only speak English, what are you talking about?"
"All elves speak the enlightened language from birth," He explained. "You don't even notice when you switch languages if you're a polyglot, but even people who aren't one don't know when they're speaking our language."
"So, uh, Foster?" Keefe asked when she ran down the hallway. "There's actually two elves here," Sophie's eyes widened.
"Well, let's take both of them to the black swan hideout," She pulled out two bracelets that Isaac assumed were nexus'
"We'll explain once we get there, but I know Isaac has read the books, which by the way we have no idea where those came from, but there's more to explain."
"I'm not letting you just take my best friend without warning her, Sophie."
Isaac looked back at Taylor who was still silent, although that wasn't unusual around people she didn't know.
"You know how it was for you, don't you think other's shouldn't go through it like that?" He hoped his eyes showed how serious he was.
"Fine, but Keefe will take you while I explain everything to her, I just need a few minutes to transfer some memories-only if she agrees of course."
"Good luck Isaac," Taylor finally spoke. Isaac smiled, he had a feeling he might need it.
---------setting change---------
"So, are you gonna explain how the hell I'm an elf?" Isaac finally asked after Keefe had leapt him to some sort of cave.
This was why he shouldn't trust people.
Then again, Keefe wasn't a person. He was an elf.
Who actually existed.
Keefe started playing with his hands. "It's...complicated."
"Allow me to explain then," An old man stepped out from the shadow. Isaac assumed that it was Mr. Forkle. "You were created by the Neverseen, but we hid you from them."
Isaac couldn't have heard that correctly.
Was he made to be evil?
"I know what you're probably thinking, and no not because I read your mind, I learned that lesson from Sophie. But you're correct, you're basically their version of project moonlark. Except you can't use your powers unless they let you."
"They...let me?" He repeated. "How does that even work?"
Keefe shared a look with Mr. Forkle.
"I command you to."
---------POV change----------
"Look, I know this is a lot," Sophie finished. "But people will still try to kill you either way, and with us you'll have protection."
Taylor wasn't sure what to think anymore.
Did she really want to leave her family?
Her only friend would also be with her if she decided to leave, plus...Wouldn't she be putting her family in danger if she stayed?
"Haven't you ever felt like you don't belong?" Sophie asked.
Taylor had felt like that, every time she touched someone. She always felt way more sensitive to people's emotions unless she forced herself not to, but it was even worse with contact. So, she nodded.
She vaguely remembered Isaac's description of Keefe, who was an empath.
That sounded an awful lot like her.
"I'll do it." Taylor decided. "I'll come to the lost cities with you."
