"This is Taylor," Sophie introduced as Taylor curtsied to Oralie. "Mr. Forkle was supposed to tell you we found Isaac-Project Phoenix."
That was one of the things Sophie had explained earlier, apparently Isaac was created by an evil organization called the neverseen.
And Mr. Forkle was the leader of the good group called the black swan. Taylor really wished Sophie knew where she fit into this.
Taylor, forever the one to not speak, just waved.
"We didn't realize Taylor was an elf until she started speaking the enlightened language. She followed her friend and could understand Keefe."
"I assume you'd rather me not tell the rest of the councilors?" Oralie guessed. Sophie nodded. "I'll do the best I can to keep this from them, but that would mean Taylor can't attend Foxfire."
Sophie had explained Foxfire and Taylor did want to go, but not if that meant putting her in more danger than she'd already be in.
Speaking of danger...
She took a deep breath, she could talk to Sophie, right? "What are you gonna do about my family?"
Sophie and Oralie shared a look. "Well, probably the same thing we did with my family," Sophie answered. "I wish there was a better way."
"Who am I gonna stay with here?"
"If we wanna keep you a secret I was thinking you could live in a black swan hideout?" Sophie suggested. "I know it might not be ideal, but there isn't really another option."
Taylor nodded.
She could do this.
Suddenly something-or someone appeared behind her. She felt Isaac wrap her in a tight hug. "I heard they're sending you to live in a black swan hideout."
Taylor was about to ask how he already knew that when he said, "Keefe told me, and I wanted to say bye before you left. He's not sure how often I'd get to see you."
Maybe his ability was telepathy.
"I don't know why I get the Sophie treatment while you're hidden away," He continued. "But I think it's really unfair just so you know."
It was, but Taylor wasn't gonna be the one to say something.
"I'll be okay," She whispered. "Especially if they give us imparters so we can talk. I'd hail you every night."
"You better."
"Good luck at Foxfire," She whispered as she pulled away from the embrace,
"Good luck to you too," He whispered. "I hope you figure out what your ability is soon so you can train."
Taylor hoped so too.
-------setting change---------
"I'm sorry," Sophie said after she and Taylor reappeared in front of an almost human looking house. Taylor thought elvin houses were supposed to be mansions.
Taylor shot Sophie a confused look. Why was Sophie sorry?
"I wish you weren't being hidden away," Sophie said. "Like, if you're getting taken away from your family you should at least get to actually experience the lost cities."
Taylor thought so too, but it wasn't Sophie's fault.
"At least you're gonna be in good hands," Sophie continued. "Livvy will be your guardian, and I know she'll care for you as much as she cared for my sister."
From the memories Sophie showed, Taylor could agree Livvy was a great choice for her guardian.
Sophie led her inside and Taylor could tell she was so wrong about the house being a normal size.
The inside was probably as big as her old high school.
Who needed that much space?
"You must be Taylor!" a woman who Taylor assumed was Livvy, exclaimed.
Her smile was very contagious.
Taylor smiled back at her and nodded.
