The sound of bells echoed across the school-yard. It was a particularly cold morning, the air bringing an almost unbearable chill. Despite this fact, several students were scattered across the yard. Most were busy chatting with friends or desperately trying to catch up on missing assignments. All but two.

The first, a boy of about sixteen, with dark hair that seemed to be almost purple in the sunlight. Much like his violet eyes, which were buried in a book that looked anything but interesting. The second of the two was fifteen, and maybe more eye-catching than the first. His white hair was tangled and frizzy with bits of leaves and twigs sticking to it. His own green eyes met with Fyodor's from across the yard.

"Dos-kun!" He called out with a smile, rushing over to where Fyodor was seated. Fyodor briefly looked up at Nikolai from the pages of his book. "The woods, again?" He asked with a sigh. While the forest surrounding the school wasn't off limits to students, Nikolai had a bad habit of venturing into them instead of attending his classes. "How could you tell?" Nikolai giggled. "But I've found a real treasure, so it was worth it." He stated, the grin on his face continuing to widen.

Fyodor shut his book and raised an eyebrow, wanting to hear more about this supposed "treasure". Nikolai reached into his pocket and pulled out a feather, showing it to the other triumphantly. Fyodor was unimpressed. "A blue jay feather? Don't you already have one of those?" "That's not the pointttt." Nikolai groaned dramatically. "Sure, it may seem like an ordinary feather but..."

Without warning he took the feather and began tickling Fyodor's neck, catching him off guard and causing a laugh to escape his lips. "Kolya!" He gasped, his face beginning to flush. Nikolai's expression grew as bright as the sun, he loved the sound of Fyodor's laugh. "It made you laugh! Any object capable of doing that could only be defined as a treasure!" Nikolai proclaimed. Fyodor had quickly regained his composure but it was hard to hide the slight smile that played at the corners of his lips.

"So it could. But really Nikolai, you ought not skip out on all your classes. They're going to kick you out." They both knew that wasn't true. In fact, Nikolai had been doing this the entirety of the time he spent at the school, the only reason he hadn't been kicked out was because he passed every single quiz or test that came his way. The perks of being a genius, he supposed.

Nikolai scoffed. "Yeah right. And be stuck in a stuffy room for hours at a time, being fed information I already know? Sounds fun." He said, voice drowning in sarcasm. "At least come to philosophy class once in a while." Fyodor continued. "It gets boring when you're not there to cause a scene." "No promises Dos-kun~" the other responded. "By the way, I want you to keep this." Nikolai dug back into his pocket for the feather. "Like you said, I already have one, and the color of this one is particularly vibrant."

He took one of Fyodor's pale hands into his own and placed the feather into it. Fyodor's face immediately began to redden when he felt the warmth of Nikolai's dirty and calloused hands. He put the feather into his own pocket before turning away from the boy. "You shouldn't be so affectionate." Fyodor stated in a tone that was forcibly harsh. "People will get the wrong idea."

Nikolai stared at Fyodor for a moment. "Fine." He huffed, Fyodor didn't respond, still turned away from him. "I'll see you later then." Nikolai added before walking away.

When he was gone Fyodor reached into his pocket. He took the feather and twirled it between his fingers, letting out a long and miserable sigh. "Is this wrong?" He whispered, looking up into the grey sky above.

The rest of the day was a blur. Nikolai didn't show up to their philosophy class, which only served to lower Fyodor's spirits even further. But in a way, he was glad. Whenever Nikolai was around, he couldn't think straight. He knew what his feelings were, and so he buried them. It was sinful, an act against God for him to think that way. His guilt pressed against his heart until he felt as though he couldn't breathe. So why?

Why couldn't he stay away from him?
