"So whats wrong?" Mace asks shoving a spoonful of ice cream in his mouth. I don't answer. I just sit down on a picnic table. "Huh?" He asks again.

"Nothing." I answer bluntly. He sits down properly in the table so I'm looking down at him. I avoid eye contact.

"Thats a lie." He claims as he puts his spoon in my ice cream stealing a bite.

"Ayee!" I yell swatting at his hand. He smirks at me.

"I paid, remember?" He laughs evilly.

"Yeah... For ME." I reply rolling my eyes. Then the next thing I knew Mace was wiping his vanilla ice cream on my cheek. Don't worry... I got him back.

As I used my phone as a mirror to wipe off all the ice cream I got a text.

"Shit..." I whispered. Apparently not quiet enough though.

"What?" Mace asks.

"Its my mom," I mumble. "She wants to know where I am, the school called her." I ran my fingers through my hair getting stressed out. She would kill me if she found out I was skipping on the first day.

"I got this." Mace says as he grabs my phone.

After a short moment he hands me it back. I open it and read;

"I'm at school. I was a few minutes late because of Jay. They must of marked me absent. Going to the office now to fix it."

My jaw dropped. His grammar was perfect along with his spelling. He never uses full sentences and grammar. It looked identical to my way of wording things!

"There. I just saved your butt. Now you owe me." He smirks.

"Oh god..." I mumble and start walking towards the park across the street.

"It's not bad," he says following me. "I just want to know what was wrong earlier." I was silent as I sat down on a swing. Mace sat in the one next to me.

"I'm just nervous I guess..." I breath out heavily. "Its a lot of pressure."

"What is? The song?" He clarifies

"Yeah..." I confirm nervously.

"Julie..." He starts "You don't have to. I heard you singing one time in your kitchen and I thought you were really good. Plus it would be pretty cool having a track featuring my best friend." He smiles gently. A smile grew on my face. I love the way he can boost my confidence like nothing.
