A small tear marked my cheek as the trunk slammed shut. I sat in the backseat of the same ol' Civic with Mitchell on my left. His two back scratchers jumped into the front seats. I can't believe that just happened... Another tear pushed the stream farther down my face.

"He'll be fine." Mitchell confirms in his heartless tone. Who the fuck does he think he is? Kidnapping me and now Mace?

"Don't fucking talk to me." I scowled. Nobody hurts my bestfriend and gets away with it.

"Excuse me, bitch?" He turned to look at me. "And who do you think you are to talk to me like that?" I was digging myself a hole and I knew it.

"Myself, as a matter of fact. You deserve no respect." I took a deep breath "Fucking piece of shit." and before I could blink Mitchell slapped me hard. My hand rushed to my cheek as my head jerked to the side. He Didn't.

"You don't talk to me like that, got it? That is your only warning." I nodding solemnly in agreement.

Flash backs rushed in. Standing in the hallway of our small trailer, watching my parents fight. I was maybe 6 years old, but, despite my age I knew it was right to jump in the middle when my Dad raised his hand to my Mother. So, I did. He didn't hold back, he slapped me hard and sent me across the floor. This angered me.

I lent back onto the empty seat, bringing my legs up, resting my feet on the center seat in between Mitchell and I.

"How's this for respect?" I questioned blankly right before I drove my heal directly into Mitchell's temple. The sound of his head colliding into the window was enough of a warning for me to get out of there. I quickly propped myself up, opened the door, and throwing myself out. My knees scrapped across the ground along with my palms. I had no time to waste. We had only been driving the highway for a few minutes but the run back to town was at least a good 10 minutes. I pulled my body up and started to run. They will be coming back for me any second, but there is no way I can risk taking cover and waiting for them to pass. Mace needs me to get back. I continued running. My legs grew weaker the more I pushed for speed. I thought it was all over as a car cut me off.

"Need a lift, Hun? You look quite panicked." Without hesitation I jumped into the car.

"I need to get back to town, now!" I screamed before the door was even closed.

"What? I can't! We're on the wrong side of the highway!" she protested. Her blonde hair flying in every direction in her confused state.

"Look Ms." I started. "You're a live saver, really, thank you." I glanced in the rear view mirror only to see Mitchell's car booming up the wrong side of the road. "You need to get in back, now!" I ordered. She frantically took off her seat belt and climbed through the middle. I scurried into the drivers seat and instantly pressed on the gas. The car flew through the median and back onto the road. At this point I'm pretty sure we're both feeling a mild case of whiplash. As I swerved in and out of traffic I'm sure I've lost him to the other side of the road. I pull off onto the ramp back to town, ignoring all the blaring horns from everyone I just cut off, but I only got half way to the top when force on the tail end of the car sent me spinning. Just a short glance of Mitchell's vehicle was the last thing I saw before tumbling into the ditch. Getting a taste of my own medicine, my head smashed off the window and my vision went black.
