How have you been?
"O.K. I guess," Jane shrugged.
You guess?
"Yeah? I mean nothing has really changed from what I told you last year. ..."
No new friends?
"What do you think?"
That you're so out of everybody else league that they're scared to approach you and throw themselves into denial?
Jane burst into laughter and began laughing even more at the serious look on his face. She suddenly stopped laughing realizing that she didn't care if that were true or not. She didn't mind being alone most of the time. She showed no care towards the snarky comments thrown her way. The monsters that stare at her until the first speck of light flows into the room, are somewhat company. She's terrified of them, yes, but they're there. Not scaring her from far.
"Are you real?"
What do you mean?
"Like are you actually here?"
I don't know, am I? He reached out and stroked her hair causing her world to brighten. She seemed to not be afraid for the slightest second after he dropped his hand.
"That's weird. I can feel you and it's like ..."
What?
"Your touch makes all the other monster go away."
Silence remained in the chilly cabin. It was not the awkward silence, but the kind that's comforting. Finally, Calum spoke up,
I want to know you better.
"But you do know me...?"
What's your favorite color?
"Are you serious?"
Yes.
"O.K. then, black."
Why?
"Why not?
Stop answering questions with questions.
"Black is said to absorb all color and that can be taken in different ways. Like, for example, it's taking all the happy from the world, all the colorful. But, feeling sad is a good thing. It will bring pain, yes, but, then you can know how to actually be happy. You finally realize that you weren't happy before. Crying is O.K. because of how much pain you're releasing."
Wow.
