{Achluophobia - the fear of darkness.}

Every night is the same. Jane is not able to fall asleep with the light off.

And every night she falls asleep with the light on, but if the lights are turned off after she falls asleep, she awakes once more.

She used to scream and cry, but now she will sit at the corner of her bed with her knees brought up to her chin and watch the monsters creep inside her room.

...

"Do you even have a boyfriend?" Stacy sneered at Jane.

"No," Jane quietly answered.

"I knew it, I mean nobody likes you in general."

"Someone does," Jane whispered to herself.

"Is this person even real?"

"I don't know."

Stacy laughed and walked away after spitting in Jane's face.

Jane walked back to her bed and sat down quietly waiting for the day to end and the darkness to arrive.

...

Every night Jane would talk to herself about someone she considered her friend, and she was happy he didn't scare her. He would apologize for the others and blame himself for nothing. She met him a year ago at summer camp, while all the other girls were asleep. And here she was again, reuniting with him at the same camp.

"I missed you, Calum."

I missed you too.
