Dazai and Y/n danced delicately around one another in the following weeks. It wasn't avoidance or fear that caused it, but rather a newfound gentleness. They had yet to pick back up on their late night visits and group antics, but slowly she had begun to train with Dazai and Chuuya again. Slowly, they had begun to fall back into their old patterns. He had even caught her sneaking up to the roof with Chuuya to smoke. Although he hated that habit of theirs, it made him happy to see.

It came as a pleasant surprise when she had appeared in his office, unannounced. The fact that she hadn't knocked before she had entered was something that should have annoyed him. Instead, it was a reassurance. It was proof that things were mending between them.

He had been meeting with Akutagawa about one thing or another, some aspect of his training that seemed to completely slip his mind the moment Y/n entered in her black dress. Akutagawa turned in his chair, following the path of his Executive's gaze.

"Y/n." Dazai said as he got to his feet.

His subordinate was taken aback by the softness in his normally derisive voice.

"Who's this?" she asked in the silver soft voice she adopted around unfamiliar faces, tilting her head towards Akutagawa as she stood by the door.

"One of my subordinates."

"Akutagawa Ryunosuke." Akuatagawa added and Y/n's gaze shifted from him back to Dazai.

"I didn't mean to bother you, I'll come back later."

"No!" the words had fallen from his lips quicker than he had meant them too and with an almost desperate intonation, "No, now is fine. What's up?"

He came out from behind his desk and walked over to where Y/n stood, Akutagawa watching closely all the while.

"Nothing important." Y/n replied, shaking her head, "I just wanted to know... if you would help me move?"

She rocked back and forth on her heels slightly as she asked. Her stocking clad feet were bare, a habit he had noticed she had taken up within the Mafia's walls in the past month. There was a smile threatening to make it's way onto her face.

"Move?" Dazai repeated in confusion.

"I'm changing rooms." she said and this time, she really did smile.

"Really? That's such big news, what are you talking about? Of course I'll come help."

"Cool." she said, her smile growing wider as she laughed a little in joy, "I'm gonna ask Chuuya to come too. I don't have that much stuff, but I figured it could be fun."

"You have two walls of floor to ceiling books, Y/n." Dazai laughed, "That's a lot of stuff."

"Oh, hush."

"I'll come by once I'm done here."

"Sounds good, I'll go grab Chuuya."

Y/n turned back to the door and opened it.

"I'll see you in a few." Dazai called to her as she left.

"See you in a few." Y/n responded as she let the door fall closed behind her.

It took Akutagawa clearing his throat to seemingly remind his mentor that he was still in the room. When Dazai turned back to face him, he was the same stony man he had known before. Dazai walked back to the desk and took his seat.

The rest of the meeting had passed in a blur, he could barley remember what had taken place. His excitement over the coming task obscured everything. As soon as Akutagawa was gone, he rushed to Y/n's room.
