Y/N POV

As each New Year's Eve came, the weight of my three-year singlehood pushed down on me. Everything around me seemed to conspire to remind me of my loneliness, and a heavy sensation of bitterness sank deep inside my heart. The lack of a New Year's kiss had become a noticeable hole in my life, a glaring reminder that love had escaped me for far too long. My friends, no matter how well-meaning they were, never let me forget this.

"Hey, dude, are you ready for another year without a New Year's kiss?" Jun, one of my closest friends, laughed as we prepared for New Year's Eve. Although his tone was casual, his taunting ripped right through me.

I managed a half-smile, hoping to brush off the barbs, but the fact was that his remarks simply added to my annoyance. Every year, like clockwork, I'd make some ridiculous resolution. "This year, I'll find love," I'd remark, my eyes bright with purpose. But when the calendar pages rolled and the seasons changed, those resolutions never grew. It was becoming evident that I was trapped in a never-ending cycle of disappointment, as if I would never taste the elusive joy of a New Year's kiss.

That is, until Minji, my most trusted friend, intervened. For years, she had been my confidante, by my side through thick and thin. We had laughed and cried together, celebrated our victories, and consoled each other when we failed. She was the type of friend that actually understood me, and I couldn't have wished for a finer companion on this adventure known as life.

Minji had observed my New Year's blues in previous years, but something was different this time. She could see how it was impacting me more deeply, like a shadow falling over my spirit. And she wasn't about to let it slip her by under the radar.

Minji and I were chatting in our regular coffee shop one afternoon a few days before New Year's Eve. My thoughts were preoccupied with the upcoming New Year's celebrations as I absently swirled my cappuccino. The thought of another year going by without a New Year's kiss weighed hard on my emotions.

"You seem really down this year," she observed, her voice worried.

I gazed up at her, my eyes expressing my tiredness. "I suppose I am. It's just that New Year's is a constant reminder of what I'm missing in my life."

Minji moved in closer, her face sympathetic. "Y/N, you're a wonderful person. You, like everyone else, deserve to find love and happiness. Maybe we can do something extraordinary this year."

Curiosity heightened, and I raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Her eyes took on a malicious glitter. "I have an idea. Let's flip that New Year's frown upside down. When the clock strikes midnight, I'll surprise you with a New Year's kiss."

I blinked in disbelief, unable to believe what I'd just heard. "You'd do that for me?"

Minji gave a pleasant smile. "Of course I would. You're my friend, and I hate seeing you so down. Plus, I think it could be a lot of fun. We'll make it a memorable night."

Her words shone through the clouds like a ray of sunshine. The heaviness that had settled in my heart for so long began to lift as I felt a warmth spread through my chest. Minji's offer was more than simply a midnight kiss. It was a gesture of sincere friendship, a beacon of hope amid the darkness of my self-doubt.

Minji's plan began to take form as New Year's Eve neared. We shopped for new clothing together, carefully picking our wardrobe for the momentous night. She helped me select the attire that made me feel confident, and her constant support was a calming salve to my nervous heart.
