Y/N POV
It was simply another normal day at school. The ongoing buzz of lectures resonated through the hallways, and I, a high school student on the verge of graduation, struggled to stay focused. My rebellious streak, a constant companion, had a tendency to lead me astray. Today was no exception. Despite my best efforts to follow the rules, I became involved in yet another incident, which inevitably put me in detention.
I slouched into the steel-framed chair, my gaze fixed on the ticking clock, surrendering myself to the unavoidable dullness. However, fate seemed to have different plans for me. As the door creaked open, signalling the arrival of the teacher in charge of detention, I braced myself for a solitary term of captivity. However, to my surprise, I was not alone in what I was going through today.
Eunseo, a girl I'd secretly admired from a distance, entered the room with quiet confidence. She gave me a quick glance before taking the seat next to me, which sent a bolt of surprise through my veins.
"Hey," I said, attempting to conceal my surprise with casual nonchalance.
"Hey," she said, tentatively smiling. "It looks like we're both stuck here today."
Her comments hung in the air, laced with a sense of sarcasm that I couldn't help but enjoy. Eunseo, an example of school brilliance and popularity, sharing my fate as an infamous troublemaker was an unexpected turn of events.
"Yeah, it seems like it," I chuckled, unable to contain my delight. The mere thought of spending time in Eunseo's company was enough to lift the gloom of detention.
As the detention session began, I caught myself stealing looks at Eunseo, unable to shake the butterflies in my stomach. I had always admired her from a distance, and now that fate had brought us together in the same room, I saw it as an opportunity to finally break the ice.
"So, what did you do to land yourself here?" I asked, hoping to start a conversation.
Eunseo gave a quiet chuckle, her eyes shining with enjoyment. "I might have been caught cheating on a test." I know, not very bright for someone known as the 'smart girl'."
I couldn't help but smile at her sincerity. "I can't say I was surprised. You've always scored straight A's."
Her cheeks reddened at the compliment, and we settled into a comfortable conversational cadence. We talked about our classes, our future goals, and even had a few chuckles about our favourite TV shows. With each passing minute, I became more fascinated by her warmth and genuineness.
As the detention session came to a close, we gathered our belongings and exited the room together. Despite the early awkwardness of the situation, I felt a sense of friendship forming between us.
"Thanks for keeping me company in there," Eunseo said, giving me a beautiful smile as we approached the school exit.
"No problem," I said, attempting to appear unconcerned despite the rush of excitement within me. "We have to try it again sometime. You know, without the entire detention part."
Her smile grew wider, and my heart skipped a beat. "I'd like that."
With an injection of confidence, we exchanged numbers and made tentative plans to meet after school. As I watched her walk away, a rush of excitement surged over me. Could this mark the start of something special?
In the days that followed, Eunseo and I were inseparable. We spent every spare moment together, studying at the library, eating lunch in the cafeteria, or simply strolling around the hallways of our high school, immersed in conversations. With each passing day, my feelings for her became stronger, but I couldn't bring myself to admit it.
But as graduation day approached, I realised I couldn't keep my emotions bottled up any longer. I had to grasp the opportunity to tell Eunseo how I honestly felt.
On the day of our graduation ceremony, amidst the sea of caps and gowns, I gathered all of my strength and looked out at Eunseo in the crowd. My pulse raced as I neared her, my nerves tingling with excitement.
"Eunseo," I said, my voice trembling slightly as I met her eyes. "There's something I need to tell you."
Her eyes expanded in interest, and she gave me a comforting grin. "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, I took her hands in mine, my palms wet from anxiousness. "I've admired you for a long time, Eunseo. You aren't just the 'smart girl' that everyone thinks you are. You're nice, funny, and stunningly beautiful. And... I think I may be in love-."
Eunseo's eyes widened in surprise as my confession hung in the air between us, the weight of my words clear. But before I could finish, she leaned down and kissed me tenderly, sending electricity rushing through my veins. It was the most magnificent moment of my life, the culmination of years of admiration and longing achieved through the delicate touch of her lips against mine.
"I've been waiting for you to say that," Eunseo said softly, her breath warm against my cheek as she drew back, her eyes filled with unspoken feelings.
The world appeared to fall away around us as we stood there, caught in the moment, with our friends' murmurs and the distant throb of music blending into the background. For a brief while, it was just the two of us, cocooned in our own pleasure.
We spent the remainder of the night dancing and celebrating with our friends, but all I could think about was the future. I knew that no matter what happened to us, Eunseo would always be by my side, a guiding light in the darkest of times.
