Silence

Jasper, with all intents and purposes, was determined. He was lying in the middle of the carpeted floor in the living room of his mates' house. His newly ordered cane was perched against the couch within reaching distance. He looked at it disdainfully as he lifted his body from the ground in another set of push-ups.

He had been at Sebastian's current pack, Copper Bond, for over a week now, and every day without the knowledge of his mates, Jasper's been training hard to strengthen his human. His mates have been giving him some distance, letting him adjust to this life. But he didn't want to adjust. Yes, he would like to move on from his past, but he had other things to do, and his mates were the one road-block he hadn't been expecting.

His ears perked at the sound of feet climbing up the concrete stairs of the porch. He quickly scrambled up and reluctantly grabbed his cane. He hobbled over to the bathroom, and started the shower, hoping that it was Liam and not Sebastian, who would've heard his mad dash to the bathroom. His prayers were answered as Liam called into the silent living space.

"I'm here!"

He made a few noises to indicate where he was, and Liam approached the closed bathroom door.

"I'm going to make us some dinner. Let me know if you need anything."

Liams feet retreated back to the kitchen. After Jasper took his shower he padded out to follow him, wrapped in a pair of joggers that were much too big. He wasn't used to the clothes, but he would wear them, he just couldn't stand the fabric on his skin no matter how much he needed the warmth.

Jasper sat on the table, cane to his right, he did not enjoy the chair much and neither of his mates had scolded it yet. He observed his mate bustle around in the kitchen, but then his eyes drifted to the window, familiar light blue ones.

Jasper was out the door within a second, cane forgotten, growls radiating from his jaw. She would not escape. He would make sure of it.

Her muscles rippled as she shifted, standing to equal his height, which was surprising for wolves, not much could match the height of a male wolf. The woman was not thin, nor was she overweight, she was lined with muscles and she had some poundage to her. Her blue eyes shone, her cropped hair was pulled into her classic ponytail.

"Jasper," she snarled. "Thought you could run, again? Don't you remember the scar Kris gave you last time you tried that? He wants you home, bitch."

Suddenly, a hand grasped his arm, Liam looked up at him fearfully. "Get inside," he whispered. "Please, Sebs on his way."

Jasper shoved him towards the porch. To safety. He would end this.

Jasper ran towards her without warning, he tumbled a little due to his faulty hip but that would not hinder him. She met his force with her stance, it would never be enough to tip her but he was hoping to stun her at least. When she used his momentum to throw him over her shoulder he landed on his hands and fell with his chest, knocking the breath out of him.

She turned around, grasped the sweater on his back and hauled him up, next thing he knew he was against the tree.

"You know Kaan hasn't been the same since you left." She shoved him up against the tree again, harder. "Neither has Kris. He's meaner. Kaan's got a lot more scars because of you."

He frowned. Worry nestled its way into his brow. But she should know better. He shoved himself off and up the tree and was scaling down back around her, while she still faced the tree. He grasped the back of her skull and shoved it into the trunk. A satisfying crack resounded in the small backyard. She turned and tackled him to the ground, letting both their skulls recoil. Typical. He recovered faster and straddled her waist, his hand to her throat, voice raspy.

"You're some family, dick."

Then, Jasper took out a knife he had stolen from the weapons room he'd kept on himself at all times since his first tour here. When he had left his old 'home', he had left everything behind, he was in desperate need to feel as if he had some protection. If he had his own weapon, even if it was a knife, he wouldn't have to let the wolf out and damage himself even more.

He brought his lips to her ears and growled. The knife dug its way into her throat instead of his clawed hands. He pressed harder and slid. In one stroke, she was done.

He wasn't always used to killing so fast, not that he couldn't, but Kris preferred to watch, and he had preferred a more painful killing. Jasper had been merciful, but blood was still on his hands.

"Jasper!"

Sebastian and a group of warriors stood just to the right of the house. By the looks on their faces, they saw a lot of the altercation. Their faces were somber as Jasper wore one that was stoic bordering on panic.

They couldn't know.

Don't ask.

"Jasper? Is that your name?"

Dont. Ask.

"Jasper, what happened? Who was that?"

You're better without me. At least for now. I have to get to him first, I have to free Kaan. Then, if I survive, we can be happy. I can be happy.

Jasper was settled in the same spot on the living room floor he had begun his day in.

Paul was yelling about something, his eyes red, everyone could feel the uncomfortable pressure. It made Jasper fidget in a restless heat. The warriors in front of the alpha stood with rigid backs, taking in the information. Sebastian stood off to the side glancing nervously in his direction every now and then. He is a pack doctor, it hadn't anything to do with him, but Sebastian lifted his lip wanting to interrupt, but would stop himself. He wasn't a warrior, he needed to stop convincing himself that he was.

Liam was standing next to Sebastian, but he wouldn't look at him.

Finally, the alphas' gaze turned to Jasper.

"You." His eyes softened before they hardened again. "I can't have you here." Sebastian made a noise of complaint. "But," the alpha glanced at his two mates, "you can stay in town, it is technically still our territory, but not many of our wolves live there, mostly humans. But I have a feeling the people who have attacked aren't after the humans, right?"

Jasper nodded, at least only very specific ones anyway.

"Fine, then that's settled. Please be gone by this time tomorrow. I'm sorry if this is harsh but I will not let your presence endanger the pack. And I have a feeling you won't be able to give me any information at the moment." Paul turned his direction to his mates. "But if you figure anything out..."

With that, Paul left the house along with the warriors. Thus concluding a long tumultuous night with an awkward evening routine filled with silence.
