Abide

I wonder if I can use this.

Jasper was staring at a tie for hair, there was a small bundle of them on the bathroom counter, not yet opened. Neither of his other mates had hair long enough to put in the hair ties like he did, but he still was not told directly to use them.

Deciding against it, as they looked new, he stumbled his way out of the bathroom and scanned the room for his cane. He found it propped up against the side table by the bed, easily overlooked in his half asleep state on his way to the bathroom.

Taking the cane with him Jasper made his way downstairs. His mind felt numbed with the stimuli of instruments so early in the morning, he didn't know where it was coming from or why but it made him even more anxious. Like he couldn't hear all the dangers coming his way, even more so than normal with the hearing loss in his one ear.

The noise needs to be off.

The heads of his mates snapped to him as he entered the doorway. They both wore noncommittal smiles and beckoned him in. Sebastian started to set the table as Liam rushed into the living space to a medium sized box he hadn't noticed before. As Liam turned the dial the volume in the room went down until he could hear it no more. He watched as Liam pressed a button and a blue light flashed before it went dark.

They all moved to the table and finally settled in. It was a rounded table, but not entirely a circle. It's an oval. His brain told itself. Happy that he remembered something from his schooling days in that hell besides how to effortlessly kill, Jasper continued to nibble on his breakfast, not a big fan of the toast, but loving the fruit and the warmed oatmeal.

When Liam and Sebastian headed out for the day to work, Jasper was still stuck at the apartment, waiting for them to return. He kept the tv on, trying to learn more about the outside world he missed out on while kept away. He tried not to think about that place as his muscles burned and sweat drenched his body. He was continuing to build up his forces. So Jasper needed to continue on his one goal. He decided that if need be he would tell his mates of his past. Afterall, didn't they deserve to know? Was he obligated to tell them? He needed to do this to succeed, to stop avoiding his past and getting caught up in his future. If it played out right, he would have plenty of time to indulge, but he wanted his brother there, safe by his side.

Looking out the sliding doors of his old bedroom, Jasper surveyed the perimeter. Off to the right of the woods were some deer grazing in the afternoon light. The snow was melting but would soon freeze back into ice as the sun set into the night.

When Jasper heard the footsteps approaching the doors of the apartment, he rushed out from the bedroom, as fast as he could on his disabled hip. He released the breath he was holding, and stood there in front of what he had laid out for them in the living room.

Fort! That was Liam's first thought when he peered around the surprised Sebastian in the doorway. His mind then focused on the nervous energy radiating off the builder of said structure, who stood behind it with apprehension mixed with a determined brow.

Jasper motioned for them to come into the fort by crawling in under the 'doorway'. He and Sebastian shared a look before shrugging and making their way in, careful to avoid the load bearing cushions and cane that made up the entrance.

Once they were inside and settled in, Jasper spared glances at them before wringing his hands.

Sebastian was the one who broke the long silence. "Is there something wrong, Jasper? Do you need something?" Not expecting an answer, Sebastian used one of his hands to hold his and the other to grasp onto Jaspers, giving them each a reassuring squeeze. "The fort is really nice, is that what you learned how to build today?" He asked, glancing at the adolescent show silently playing on the television. He's using captions he noted.

Hello, L-Liam, Sebastian.

Silence. Well, not complete silence, Liam's hand made a fractionally loud slapping sound as his free hand came into contact with Sebastian's bicep.

Hello, love. Sebastian was a lot calmer in his response. Whereas Liam was still in his fit of shock, he barely managed to say 'hello Jasper' out loud.

A blush rose to Jasper's cheeks, as he turned his head away. I wanted to talk to the both of you.

"Go ahead, Jasper. We're here for you."

Jasper continued to nervously fidget with any free appendage that he could, still not looking at either of his two mates in the eyes. I w-wanted to tell you... about what happened, why I must do what I need to do. Jasper didn't know how to continue.

Suddenly wishing he wasnt stuck in a fort where he couldnt see any exit but one blocked by the two fit bodies of his mates, he stood up to his feet, taking the blanket roof with him and toppling two of the walls. His eyes immediatley found the large window like he had been deprived of seeing the forests without a chain around his neck, his freedom.

Jasper didnt realize how long hed been staring or how lost he had gotten until Liams hand cupped the side of his face, brushing away stray tears that had formed.

"Let's go outside and talk, yeah? Deep breaths, baby."

"Yeah you don't need to tell us if you don't want to hun," Liam butted in.

This wasn't supposed to happen. Why can't I be strong? Why can't I save him?

Liam and Sebastian wrapped him up in a hug, dissolving the rising panic slowly with every exhale. Because that is the law mates abide by he realized. It doesn't take logic or reason, it takes loving one another, and that's enough.
