Why did I tell her. I know it's for the best but everything is ruined. I walk up to her driveway and contemplate knocking on the door.
I've lost count of how many times I've talked myself out of knocking on the door but, here goes nothing.
I bang my wrist against the door hoping, praying, wishing that Violet answers the door.
It's not Violet.
Cori is stood there, holding the door with his foot. He looks like death.
His hair is messy, dark eye-bags dragging his face down and he looks like he got an hour of sleep and I just disturbed it.
"Go away, Jason" he mutters as he pushes the door shut. I quickly wedge my foot so he can't close it. He sighs and pulls the door back.
"I want to see Violet" I say, shoving my hands in my pockets. "She doesn't want to see you" he groans and attempts to shut the door again.
I quickly launch open the door, slamming it into his face. I hear him groan as I run up the stairs, missing a step each time I throw myself into a bedroom door.
I knock on all of them, hoping whoever opens it is Violet. "Piss off Adam" I hear a sob from the first door. I jump onto it and grab the door handle, rapidly pushing and pulling it.
"C'mon Violet, open the door please" I ask. I look back towards the stairs and Cori is jogging up them, he looks pissed.
"Violet. Open the door" I demand. Still nothing.
Cori grabs my arm and grips it tight. "I SAID OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR VIOLET!" I scream as he drags me downstairs.
As he gets me to take my second step I hear the door open and I see a sad Violet crying in her hands.
Me and Cori look up and the same time and freeze. She's wearing short, silky shorts and an oversized hoodie. She reminds me of how she looks in mine.
It's like me and Cori both realise she's not a figure of our imagination at the exact same time and we both launch for her.
Cori manages to wrap his hands around her waist before me and I slam my back against the wall and sulk.
I want to explain this to her, everything.
"Please, Cori" she mutters through the sobs. He slowly lets go of her and stands in-front of her.
She looks up at me and I give her a slight smile, she nods her head towards her bedroom and I follow her.
Cori's posture breaks and he goes back downstairs.
Violet sits on the floor and brings her knees up and wraps her arms around herself. "I want to explain this all to you, Vi" I admit.
Her head is buried in her knees but I can see her head nod.
"Again, I was in a bad friends group. We went to a party late at night and all I said I wanted was coke, I was the driver." I explain.
She looks up at me and pulls her hair out of her face.
"Instead of giving me coke, they 'accidentally' gave me alcohol. I ended up having 4 drinks and when it was time to go home, I drove them."
Tears begin to stream down her face. I'm sorry Vi.
"I'm really sorry, Vi. I couldn't see your dad and when I realised what happened it was too late." I mutter, my eyes start to fill with tears.
She crawls towards me and places herself in my lap. And I wrap my arms around her waist and I bury my face in her hair.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I keep repeating until she eventually falls asleep. I lift her up and place her on her bed and look down on her.
She looks so peaceful.
