Chapter 16: From Mumbai to Amsterdam

Aunty ji main office parr jaa rahi hoon. Bani said to Madhu. Her mother in law looked up from her sewing project and smiled wide at Bani. Theek hai beta. Thank you for convincing Veer. Bauhat dinno ke bhaad voh office gaya aaj. Bani nodded her head and gave Madhu a hug before heading out the door. While the car drove down the long path Bani looked around at the gardeners and waved goodbye. She sighed and chuckled at her fate. Just a month ago she thought she would be single forever and here she was married to her soulmate, the same man who she fought with so much with up until the engagement. The office wasn't far from the Singhania mansion. Only a short fifteen minute drive. The tall forty story building was situated on a large plot of land and had greenery all around , a playground and outdoor pool on the side and a parkade at the front. Bani looked in awe at the tall structure with the name Singhania Industries. Although she had been here before she was still amazed at how big of a building it was. It would take a while for her to understand all the workings of their business and of course Veer wasn't the best at explaining anything since he himself barely went to work.

She came up to the door and the doorman opened it right away and greeted her. Good morning Mrs. Singhania. Bani blushed and said hello back. She was still getting used to being called that. She stepped inside the elevator and pushed the button for Veer's floor. There were gold mirrors all around so Bani decided to take one last look at herself. Veer had put a red saree on her that morning, however after he left Bani changed into a light pink one. It took many tries to get it right and watching You Tube videos countless times, but Bani managed. She wanted to surprise him. The door opened to the floor Veer worked at and Bani began walking towards his office. Excuse me. Do you have an appointment letter? Bani rolled her eyes and turned around. There stood Shalini in a hot pink skin tight skirt and white tank top tucked into it. Main apne patti se milne aayi hoon. I don't need permission for that. Bani snapped back. Shalini looked at Bani head to toe and snickered a bit. Bani now wondered if there was something wrong with the way she draped her saree and started to feel a bit self conscious. She scrunched her eyebrows and said Dekh kya rahi ho? Shalini chuckled and sat back down at her desk and proceeded to call someone on the phone.

Mr. Singhania ki dus vaje ki meeting hai conference room mein. Make sure the room is set up. Bani gulped. Veer had told her he was free. I...I'll wait here. Bani whispered. She sat down in the waiting area and looked down at the hall where Veer's office was. Shalini began to tap her nails on the desk and stared Bani down. Next time bring an appointment letter. Veer kaafi busy rehta hai. Bani took out her phone, royally ignoring Shalini. Sweetheart? Baby tum kabh aayi? Veer said from down the hall. Bani looked up and smiled at him as he spread out his arms and came up to her. He pulled her in for a tight hug, pecked her lips and twirled her around to check out the saree she was wearing. Kya bhaat hai? You changed? Aur yahaan kyun behti ho? Andar kyun nahi aayi? He asked. Bani looked back at Shalini and then wrapped her arms around his waist. I wanted to surprise you. Thank you for such a pretty saree. Aur main bass aane vaali thi...it's okay. Tumaari meeting hai. I'll come back. Veer frowned and shook his head Meeting? Kabh? Bani opened her mouth in confusion. Abhi toh Shalini ne phone kiya tha...dus vaje ki meeting. Veer shook his head and clicked his tongue. Gharwali...voh kall ki meeting hai. Aaj nahi. Bani clenched her jaw tight and muttered This stupid chudail...jaan boojke muje confuse kiya thaake main gharr vaapas challi jaaoon.

Veer didn't hear what she said but turned around nonetheless. He went up to Shalini who was avoiding Bani's gaze and said Shalini sync my calendar with Bani's phone. She'll know when I have meeting. Aur ha...next time don't make Bani wait here. Key card bangaya office ka? Shalini gulped and with shaky hands gave Veer a copy of the keycard. He came back to Bani and placed the card in her hand. Tum meri biwi ho. Tumaari jagga yahaan nahi, mere office mein hai. Shalini will put my schedule in your phone. Aggar main meeting mein hua then you'll know. But you don't need to wait here...okay? You can go and mingle with everyone and go anywhere you want with this card. Theek hai? Bani looked down at the card then back up at Veer. She pecked his lips and whispered Thank you Veeranshu. Tum itne ache kaise ho? Veer chuckled and put her hand in his, leading her to his office. As they walked over there Bani glared at Shalini who was twisting her lips in anger and embarrassment.
