❛ thanks agatha. ya batch! ❜

SUNSHINE POURED IN through the window in the early hours of the morning, eating a golden glow on the Maybank twins bodies as they rest side-by-side on John B Routledge's pull-out couch. Mackenzie was entangled in sheets and blankets with her limbs spread out on either side. She groaned and rolled over before she earned an arm to the face.

She grumbled and threw it off her. "Stay on your side, asshole."

JJ waves her off, flipping over to lay on his stomach. "Not my fault your fat ass takes up the whole bed."

Mackenzie's palm lands on his back, resulting in a bright red hand mark and a loud yelp from the boy. "You deserved that, asshole."

John B walks out of the hallway after Mackenzie's loud smack echoes through the air. "Well, aren't you just a peach this morning, Mack."

Mackenzie rolls her eyes, adjusting her bangs and rubbing her eyes before standing up. "One of these days, I'm going to kill him."

John B laughs and throws his arm around her shoulders. "You guys been outside yet?" Mackenzie shakes her head. "JJ?"

"I have polio, bro, I can't walk." JJ grumbles into the pillow.

Mackenzie rolled her eyes and she walked outside with John B's arm around her shoulder. They paused in the doorway, looking out onto his demolished front yard.

The hurricane that ran through last night—Hurricane Agatha, completely demolished the place. Even the largest tree in his yard was uprooted. Thankfully, the HMS Pogue was still intact.

"Oh, man," John B says through a yawn. "That's no good. That is not good."

Mackenzie shakes her head. "Someone pissed Aggie off last night."

"Clearly," John B retorts.

Mackenzie lets out a hum, her eyes scanning across the yard before she points over to the HMS. "Hey, the HMS made it, though."

John B looks over his shoulder and nods. "She needs a bath, though."

Mackenzie chuckles, walking over to the metal boat before climbing in. John B follows and they start to throw out branches.

JJ groggily makes his way out of the house, leaning on the patio door with an unfinished can of beer in his hands. "Agatha did some work, huh?"

"Yeah, she did."

Mack leans down, letting out a low groan before tossing a fairly large branch out of the way. She sniffles a laugh when she hits John B with it. "Sorry, JB."

JJ makes his way over, leaning on the boat. "Whatcha thinkin'?"

"I'm thinkin' that storm surge pushes all the crabs out on the marsh maze. All those drum are gonna chase the crab."
