❛ bends, like bend over and... ❜JJ MAYBANK HAD NEVER BEEN a rational person. In fact, it happened to be one of his most infuriating qualities. Any idea he'd ever had always had idiotic scratched upon every damned surface. But Mackenzie learned years ago she could never stop him, despite how much she tried.
The blonde girl nearly ripped her brother to shreds after she'd helped John B's beaten up body back home. She wanted to scream at him until her lungs gave out and shake her hands until her limbs ached to hold them up.
However, she had been too exhausted and infuriated to do anything more than scowl at him and pass out in bed.
She decided she'd save the lecture for the morning when she could truly give him a piece of her mind. And as she walked beside him on their way to the Château, she did exactly that. "I mean, seriously, JJ. You can't bust out a fucking gun whenever you want. It's-- are you seriously smoking right now? It's ten in the morning!"
JJ does nothing but blow out the smoke from his cigarette before passing it to Mackenzie. "You need to fucking relax. Jesus."
Mackenzie rolls her eyes but takes the cigarette anyway. With one large puff, she passes it back. "As I was saying, you can't--"
"Oh, look," JJ interrupts. "We're here."
Mackenzie rolls her eyes as her twin brother's mop of blonde hair jogs across the overgrown yard and around the house. With a loud huff, she follows and slumps down beside Kiara and the disheveled couch. JJ sits on a splintered table in the yard, grabbing a handful of pebbles before he tosses them across the green. "Someone needs to arrest him or something to care him into behaving."
Kiara laughs. "Nothing could scare him into behaving, Mack."
"I know," she nods in defeat as John B appears around the corner, leaning on a nearby walking stick. "Hey, JB, how's that--"
"Look, I'm calling it off. All right?" John B says without second thought . "Peterkin said if I stay out of the marsh, she'll help me with DCS."
John B had been in an ongoing battle with the Department of Child Services for the past few months after his father disappeared at sea and his uncle ventured off to start building houses in Missouri? Mackenzie wasn't quite sure.
Mackenzie felt quite bad for him most times, but the bastard could lie his ass off. Suppose that's what's keeping him in the Château for as long as it has.
Truth be told, Mackenzie and JJ could probably benefit from their own DCS run-in, but it didn't matter. The two knew there was nothing they could do about it. They had a father and a roof. Even if neither of them were in very good condition.
