Adrien Agreste ate outside of the school for lunch. He breathed in the fresh air, the fresh air of freedom once he was finished with his meal.
"Hey, dude." said a voice next to him.
Adrien turned to smile at his best friend, Nino Lahiffe. He was a very chill and cool friend. He was very much of a guy who understood most. He'd always know what was the main difference between right and wrong.
"Oh, hey, Nino." replied Adrien, waving his hand as he smiled.
And there was one more thing that Adrien would love to have. A girlfriend, someone to love. It never meant that Nino, being a best friend, wasn't enough. It didn't really take long for him to find the girl he's got a crush on. Her name was Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
It was quite a bit rough the way they first met. Adrien accused Marinette of putting chewing gum on his seat. He ended up telling her father. But guilt quickly settled in.
However, that all ended when it was raining. He had no umbrella. He knew that his mother would fuss over him and make sure Adrien didn't have a cold. The old man would lightly scold him for being so forgetful. Just like it's true caring parents. Marinette spoke her piece, saying that she never had friends and she's never been to an actual school before. Despite his (dying) anger for her, Marinette gave him her umbrella.
That's when the boy began to fall for her, turning the resentment into love. He'd try to confess to her, but she'd just end up rejecting him, saying if it was a joke, it wasn't funny. And he'd never hear the end of it from either Nino or Alya Cesaire, Marinette's best friend.
He didn't blame her. After all, he basically hated her throughout the entire day. How could she believe that he just became so lovey dovey all of a sudden.
"Thinking about her again?" asked Nino, smirking.
"Yup." replied Adrien, "Totally."
"Good, because she's over there."
Adrien then turned behind him. And there she was, the girl of his dreams. She and Alya walked towards the two. He then walked towards the girl.
"Hello, Mari." he said, "How was your morning?"
"It's going nice." said Marinette with a small smile.
The four chatted awhile, but soon it came to an end.
Adrien remembered when he began to actually believe that the tension between her and him was over when she apparently defended him from Kim. She'd also sometimes smiled. Marinette would also tease the boy here and there, but she'd mainly just kid around with him.
So it seemed that they were friends. Or "just friends".
Marinette sighed in slight annoyance. She just didn't get it. Why would Adrien just keep on flirting with her?
"It's just not possible," said Marinette, looking at Alya, "On day one, he hated me, how would one just suddenly love me?"
"Well, things can happen in the strangest ways." her best friend replied.
She did kind of feel bad once he gave her such a cold shoulder. Then he told her father, which was probably the most unintentional hurtful thing he had done. He didn't know about her father's "private personality." But it wouldn't have hurt so much if he wasn't so unforgiving...
"Thinking about your crush again?" Alya teased, referring to Adrien.
"No!" said Marinette, "You know I love someone else."
