Author's note: And I'm back at it again with the one-shots. Unfortunately not the royal one as I am in a bit of a funk. Truthfully, I feel myself losing steam, but I am determined to make as many chapters as my hands will type. I have always been a sucker for post-apocalyptic stories, so hope you enjoy! (P.S: there is some more scandalous scenes and graphic depictions of death, you have been warned).
Background: Ostonia's murderous intent to annihilate the West leads to the experimentation and creation of a lethal viral strain, courtesy of Project Apple. Originally intended to be utilized for biological warfare, the virus gets leaked, exposing its contents to civilian populations. Suddenly, infected individuals run rampant across the country, starving for human flesh. It's up to you and your new partner, Loid Forger, to protect your loved ones, and each other, from the living dead.

Blood red lights flashed warningly above, syncing to the blare of sirens wailing throughout the facility. Shards of broken glass littered the once-polished floors while vials, the color of rancid acid, puddled in haphazard swirls. Long rows of stainless steel freezers lined the back walls of the main floor, each labeled with threatening yellow stickers. The doors of each fridge were smashed beyond repair, dented, and marked with deep scratches running in every direction.
Scientist #471, Keith Kepler, sprinted down the corridor with labored breaths, his feet crunching painfully over the splintered glass. Once he reached the exit door, he rammed into the barred metal with full force, barreling into the stairwell. He clutched the metal box tucked between his arms, desperately skipping down three steps at a time. If he didn't get the syringes to the escape chopter... lord pray for them all.
A piercing clang rang from two floors below, making Keith freeze with fear. He only had two options now, and with a thumping heart, he flew back up the stairwell, hoping to put as much distance between himself and the low moans that rumbled steadily beneath him.
Thankfully, the scientist reached the top floor within minutes, using his foot to kick down the heavy door. A cold wind slapped against his face and lab coat, swaying him back and forth as he attempted to reach the rooftop's ledge. Patting down the side of his pocket, Keith pulled the single flare gun he luckily snatched from an emergency kit on the fifth floor. Aiming straight up, he pulled the trigger, illuminating the sky above him with brightly lit potassium perchlorate and smoke.
Moments later, the whirling of a black Ostonian helicopter loomed nearby. A rush of relief filled Keith's body as he waved frantically for the chopper's searchlight. The scientist never noticed the clicking of chattering teeth rushing closer.
Keith began to squint as the helicopter's beams blindsided him, forcing him to look away. However, his confusion grew into panic as the hovering vessel started to lift further upward. Why wasn't the pilot landing?
The eerie growl of one of his colleagues answers his question. Keith never even got the chance to fight back before the decaying body of scientist 312 sank its jagged teeth deep into his jugular vein, spewing his blood onto the floor in splatters as the zombie ripped off chunks from his face. Soon, a dog pile of the undead was joining the frenzy, gnawing away into the dying body of Keith Kepler, his gurgled shouts drowned by their vicious blood lust.
The metal box scientist 471 once held close skidded a meter short from the rooftop's entrance. The contents inside never made it to the rescue helicopter.
Inscribed along the top of the case was a single word, its weight meaning more than an entire dictionary.
The black letters spelled it out crystal clear.
