Reader's POV

"Could you please put your right hand on your right thigh?"

"Oh, of course."

"Thank you."

It's been a while since my last session with Lady Furina, and she finally had time to continue the painting. Today's session, however, seemed so very off. Neither of us spoke much today, which was unusual. For her to be quiet for more than two minutes during a session was a bit weird to me.

Another off thing was that she looked less happy than usual. She looked distracted, almost paranoid. It was none of my business, but I was worried for her. Thankfully today was a rainy day, which gave me an excuse to close the blinds on all the windows and the door, which gave us some privacy.

Nobody was on the streets this morning either. The entire day I had barely seen anyone. It wasn't strange for less people to be out in the rain, but for there to be absolutely no one, especially on a work day, was freaky. I wondered if I had forgotten about a holiday today, but since Lady Furina didn't mention one, I figured I didn't.

The entire morning had bothered me, even before arriving at work. First off, I opened my door to find a letter and a single flower on the doorstep. I shoved them both into my jacket though as I was in a hurry. I still haven't read the letter.

Second off, Michael was nowhere to be found. We had agreed that he'd pass by my house when I walked out and give me some kind of signal, but he was just gone. I figured he was hiding from the rain. Pathetic.

I ran to my store with an umbrella which barely helped with keeping me dry, I was still soaked when I arrived, the wind blowing the rain right onto me.

I continued painting, though. It was my job. Besides, finding a time where Lady Furina wasn't busy was rare, and I had to make the most of it.

"Ah, Y/N.."

"Yes, Lady Furina?"

"Uh.. no, nothing."

I set my brush down and looked her in her eyes, even though she was looking away from me.

"I know it's not my business, but.. if you want to say something, then you can. No matter what."

She looked at me and furrowed her brows. She looked like she was on the verge of tears.

"Well.. you and Neuvillette are.. close, yes?"

"Oh, no.. we've only met once.."

"Hm.. I see.. well, why don't you accompany me to see him? Please don't ask me why.." She looked away from me again.

"Oh, sure, if you really want me to.. when would you like to go?"

"How about we stop the painting and head over now? Please?"

I sighed and stood up. I quickly cleaned most of my things away, leaving a few things as they were, like my easel and my chair. I grabbed my umbrella and made sure both of us were covered before we started walking to the Palais Mermonia. The walk was completely silent.

In the time Lady Furina and I were inside, the rain seemed to have picked up. The both of us were once again soaked upon arriving, and we ran inside quickly.

There were a few Gardes and Melusines inside, and all of their gazes jumped to us when we ran in. I tried my best not to make eye contact, but Lady Furina wasn't having it.

"What are you all staring at? As your archon I command you to return to your work!" And all eyes were off of us. Except one pair, Sedene, the Chief Justice's assistant.
