Every summer, the Medthanan Group rents out Rajamangala Stadium especially for competitive outdoor activities, and they host Field Day, their annual sports and recreation day. Because Tin knew from personal experience that there was a certain level of trust and respect that one could only get from working with other people on a physical activity, this was one of the first initiatives that he had specifically asked HR to look into. It's grown to be something that everyone looks forward to over the past four years, mostly due to the departments' almost ridiculous competition.
For the most part, Tin had been having a great time, and he was especially appreciative that all he had to do was give a brief welcome speech and watch from the stands alongside Saint. They're watching the contenders line up for one of the final competitions of the day, the three-legged race, at this late hour of the afternoon. Tin can see his team huddled in a circle, Kongthanin and Thanapon towering over Can and Sorntast as they discuss strategy in depth, from where they are stationed.
When Saint sees him staring, he gives him an elbow. "Your boy is probably up next!" With a gesture toward the middle of the field, where Can is having a conversation with a finance guy, he teases. He no longer wears his windbreaker, but he does have black smeared on his cheeks and a red bandana wrapped around his head. He looks good with it.
"He's not my boy," Tin grumbles.
Saint laughs, slapping Tin's back. "Sure he isn't."
Tin rolls his eyes and turns to face the back where Can and Finance Guy are fastening their ankles together with a red piece of cloth. "Who is that?" Tin asks, pointing with his water bottle at Finance Guy.
Peering over his sunglasses is Saint. "The guy Cantaloupe's partnered with?" He asks. "That's Fluke from Finance. Hell of a guy. You haven't met him?"
Tin scoffs. "I most likely have. However, I can't really recall his face."
"Man, Fluke just has one of those faces. I was just speaking with him before! For some reason, he was really looking forward to today. Mentioned that it was extremely significant for the narrative," Saint says, emphasizing the word "narrative" with air quotes.
There's a whistle blowing somewhere, and people around them are cheering. Can and Fluke appear to have gotten off to a head start, jogging across the field in unison and maintaining a steady rhythm.
"YOU GOT THIS, CANTALOUPE!" Saint yells from next to him, making Tin jump.
"Jesus Christ, Saint," Tin hisses, rubbing at his ears.
"C'mon, Tin-y tyranny, live a little!" Saint says, jostling him. "Your boy's in the lead!"
Tin keeps his attention on the race and doesn't even try correcting him. Although Fluke and Can are a few steps ahead of everyone else, another pair is closing the gap rapidly. Tin looks on as Fluke looks to their left at the members of the blue team who are closing the gap, and he puts an arm around Can's shoulders to get him moving faster. As a result, Can puts an arm around Fluke's waist, and Tin experiences a wave of—something—at that moment. Impatience? Especially since they were already ahead, that move was totally needless. He takes a sip of his water to pass the time.
