"What's on the agenda for today, Ketura?" Koffi asked, punctuating each word with a randomly placed kiss on the side of my face. We were lazing around on the couch, the spooning position we were in too comfortable for me to even think of doing anything else.
He'd come over right after practice, the refreshing scent of his shower gel coupled with his cologne making me attach myself to him almost as soon as he walked in.
"Can't we just stay in all day?" I whined. "It's nice and cozy. No need to expose ourselves to the cold out there."
"I hear you," he chuckled, "but we did that yesterday and the day before that. I'm getting worried."
"Worried about what, K?" I asked, wondering where he was going with this. He and I had seen each other a whole lot in the month since the night at the arcade. If I wasn't spending my free time with Naka, my mom or my sisters, I was with him.
We weren't back together, that elephant was still in the room, but we weren't keeping things friendly either. All I knew was that I was not ready to dive into a conversation about us when I was still freshly processing the news of my dad's passing. We were happier than we'd ever been and the problems of the past were starting to feel like a figment of my imagination. That was good enough for me.
"All this time indoors can't be good for you. I know we've been having fun, but I do think we need to stretch our legs, get some fresh air. A little change of scenery goes a long way." Koffi said in response to my question, his hand sliding down to my hip and moving in small circles there.
"Okay, where do you want us to go?" I asked, even though I knew I'd much rather stay inside with him.
"Well, I know the perfect place to go to." he said. "Go get dressed."
About thirty minutes later, we were both comfortably clad in sweat pants, hoodies and winter coats, cruising down the streets of Kitalo City to a place that Koffi insisted I'd find really cool.
Koffi parked near a building in town that was close to the KCU campus. There were many students roaming the streets and when we walked out we blended right in with the crowd. Koffi was approached by two groups of girls asking for selfies and autographs and I stood there patiently, having already been warned about the possibility of this happening.
Our short walk ended at a three story building with graffitied walls and identical looking windows. There was a blonde-haired, tattooed guy at a table in the foyer, his green eyes lighting up as soon as Koffi walked in with me.
"Ey! K-man! Long time no see." he said, giving Koffi a manly handshake that ended with them slapping each other's backs as they briefly hugged.
"And hello, gorgeous." he said, giving my hand a flirtatious kiss like they do in the movies.
Koffi rolled his eyes playfully in reaction to the guy's behaviour. "K, this is Jacques. He's a tattoo and graffiti artist. He and his friends bought this building for really cheap a couple of years ago and revamped it into the coolness you're about to experience today. He also loves to act like he's never seen black women before, even though they're everywhere."
