I heaved a sigh of relief as soon as I made it to my hotel room after a long morning of posing in front of cameras, doing interviews and constantly updating my social media to fulfill my end of the deal I was flown out for.

Parts of my morning had been fun, but majority of it was exhausting and tedious, making me miss everything about Kitalo City. As soon as I got through the door, I was on my phone again, this time making a call that I was actually looking forward to.

"Hey, K." she said groggily when her face materialised on my screen.

"Hey, sexy." I smiled. "Did I wake you?"

"No. I haven't gone to bed yet, working late."

"You look tired, chérie."

"I am. The cases we're working on are taking a toll on me. And I can't even take a break."

"You should at least try to get some sleep, though."

"I will." she said, the lie plain in her face. "As soon as I finish the last bit of reading I have to do for the court hearing we're having in a few days."

I shook my head at her stubbornness. She was a workaholic if I'd ever seen one. "Where's Bonbon? Has he been good?"

"He's sleeping." she said, turning the phone so I could see Bonbon asleep on her side.

"How's Los Angeles?" she asked, her smile big and bright.

"It's really hot out here, but I like it. The work has been exhausting, but we're almost done, and then I can relax a little. Oh, and I'm going to a basketball game tomorrow. For the first time in years, I'll be sitting back and watching a game, not playing in it."

"Sounds like fun, K."

"It is."

"What's your absolute favourite thing about it?"

"I don't want to say. It's embarrassing."

"Embarrassing?" she laughed. "It's food, isn't it?"

I nodded with a sheepish grin on my face. "Ketura, the food trucks? I don't think I could ever get tired of it. And they're so generous with their portions. I think I'm in heaven."

"I knew it!" she threw her head back in laughter.

I smiled as I soaked in the sight of the corners of her bright eyes crinkling up, her mouth perfectly curving upwards to create a sound I could never grow tired of hearing.

"What are you looking at me like that for?" Ketura asked once she got the laugh out.

"You're gorgeous." I shrugged. "I miss you."

"And I miss you." she said, her mouth now stretching into a deep yawn.

With a second shake of my head, I said, "Alright, enough of this. You need to rest. Let me see you put your work away and get ready for bed."
