"Okay," I said at the airport where Koffi would soon be boarding his flight, "this is the moment I've been dreading."
"Me too." Koffi said, his voice heavy. "I wish I didn't have to go."
"Liar." I giggled. "I know you're excited about this trip."
"Maybe a little," he chuckled, "but that doesn't mean I'm happy to leave you."
I kissed his cheek and wrapped my fingers around his. "Go have a good time and make your money, K. I'll be here when you get back."
I missed him as soon as he was out of sight, my fingers flying to my lips to trace the remnants of the goodbye kiss he left me with.
"Looks like it's just you and me, Bonbon." I said as I strapped the seatbelt over myself once I got back to my car. Bonbon yapped at me and I stroked his head, giving him a doggie treat to chew on as we headed back to my place so I could launch myself into properly missing Koffi.
I was already sulking when I suddenly remembered that I'd promised my mom a visit. Grateful for the distraction and the kind of comfort I could only find in the home I grew up in, I drove over there, my true crime podcast keeping me company on the way.

"Hey, sisi. I didn't know you'd be here." Nella said from our mom's doorstep when I went to let her in after she rang the doorbell. I smiled as I hugged her, noticing that her shoulders were a bit stiff as she sighed into my embrace.
"I remembered I owed Mommy a visit." I shared. "Are you okay? You seem a bit off again today."
Nella shook her head and smiled a little. "I'm good, Kay. I'm just tired. I've had some busy days, since I was putting off a lot of stuff for the wedding. In three days I've done DIY photoshoots, filming and editing videos for different sponsorships, not to mention just living life. Ugh. I hope you baked something..."
"Chocolate cake is cooling on the counter and I've got two pizzas in the oven for dinner." I offered, noticing her face light up a little.
"I've never been so happy to be back home." Nella responded with an even bigger smile on her face as she carried Bonbon and greeted him in a squeaky voice.
We walked into the house and gathered around the dinner table, my mom and I catching Nella up on the day we had.
"Aisha is so happy on her honeymoon. I won't be surprised if she chooses to officially move to Greece." my mom laughed with a shake of her head.
"Oh, I hope she doesn't do that. What will the art gallery be without her? I don't have the energy to take up her responsibilities." Nella complained as she dug into her bag and pulled out a pack of red and black gummies.
"It was hypothetical, Nella." I laughed, my mom and I exchanging a look as she picked out only red gummies.
"It better be." she said. "So, Des... Aisha's enjoying her honeymoon, Kay here's been all smiles and stuff since she got back with Koffi, and I'm doing life with Hasani. What's your love life looking like?"
