—CHAPTER ONE—
They should have known better. They should've been more careful, but people are always been like that, selfish and uncaring.
Almost a year ago, a new and unknown contagious virus suddenly pop out of nowhere causing terror around the globe. Bunch of scientist's didn't know where it exactly originates, but after pressured months of researching and experimentation, they create an effective dosage of vaccine to kill the virus they called as Black Pearl.
Several theories about Black Pearl were posted by netizens online. Myriads of thoughts and what ifs from people she barely know were making a group on different social media platforms to gather more members and ideas. It was mostly hoax contents, but as a campus journalist, the woman with round glasses was forced to keep reading, looking for more sources.
She can vividly remember a certain headline from a news article which states that Black Pearl is just an upgraded version of a fever, except that it causes serious brain damage and internal bleeding that often leads to death of a person.
When the government officially announced the availability of the vaccines, she immediately felt the surge of relief. Not long ago, people aren't given the chance to mingle and visit crowded places, but since the virus is almost gone, everything seems to be back in normal, even schools which came to halt for good six months just opened to public again and since then, education presumes.
She looks around the empty library and silently tap the pen on his fingers to the table repeatedly, she was assigned to write a news regarding the Black Pearl, but there's no new informations about it, still the same old ones from last year. Akira stared at her blank paper and shakes her head when a thought entered.
“That's absurd.” she reprimands herself.
She was scrolling online last night when she saw that, and since then the idea didn't leave her mind. It will be pure entertainment to write such news about zombies just from theories. But news doesn't work that way, it should be focusing on facts and real scenarios, not from theories made by people's creative minds.
Sighing, she opened her phone that she has been ignoring for almost two hours now. She was met by her brightful lockscreen with a photo of a tan man wearing a bear hat and a wide smile, se can't help but smile at the sight that greets her and coos.
“How can you be this adorable?” she murmurs to no one. She couldn't stop the growing smile on her lips.
She looked up and notice the nearing figure of her friend, approaching her table. She pursed her lips for a few second and smiled at him while the other just have her a knowing look.
“You know what, for someone as busy as you, you looked so energetic. Mind telling me why?” the blonde petite guy greets him with a question and flopped at the vacant seat in front of her still eyeing Akira's phone lockscreen.
“You and your obsession with that guy, psh.”
“Nothing, just some silly zombie theories online.” she said as if not hearing her friend's teasings.
Brylle rose up from his seat.
“Tell me about it.” the elder urged while rummaging through his backpack.
“The virus is still evolving and replicating, and since no one knows where the virus exactly came from, it's harder to find ways to kill it.”
Brylle laughs, “You know that vaccines are there to protect human's body right?” her friend said, thinking deeply, “But the theories aren't that impossible to happen. It actually sounds plausible.” he added extending a chocolate bar towards Akira, the other just mumbled a soft thanks.
“I don't wanna talk about. It's not like it's the end of the world already for us to face such circumstances.”
“Yeah right, the virus cases are diminishing, so we don't need to worry about that. Plus it's been year, calm down.” both of them nodded, worry free.
There's nothing to worry about. Right?
