—CHAPTER TEN—
She's literally shaking in fear and confusion. As far as she could remember, her bestfriend is a journalist like her in and a student in a university, not part of the army!
The three of them stood there, dumbfounded. The gun pointed at them is now gone.
There is an evident confusion on Brylle's face, before he uttered, "Akira?" in a hushed voice. He took a step once forward but the other two took a step back. Even if she wears a facemask, Brylle will still be able to recognize her face even if you put him in the middle of a huge crowd.
Akira doesn't know what is happening. This is Brylle in front of them, clad in a military uniform. Her childhood and one and only bestfriend. One of the person whom she trusts the most.
Brylle removed his headgear before letting out a breathe of air. He combed his messy hair and hide the barrel from his coat.
"Look, you guys better listen to me." Brylle said pleadingly. His eyes went to Johansson with a heavy glint of recognition before his eyes went back to Akira.
He even looked back from their behind before proceeding to his talking, "I know, I know everything is now confusing to you but I promise you can trust me. I won't hurt you Akira. I would never hurt you anyone." he explained in a soft voice.
Akira shakes her head she no longer sure if she is still her bestfriend. She felt Johansson's warm body against the cold weather. The man kept his mouth shut.
"If you're saying t-that we can trust you..proved it to us t-then. If you can't do that then you must let us get away from h-here."
She watched her bestfriend grabbed his hair in confusion, his eyes keep on coming back to her and Johan and from their behind as if someone is following them.
In the end he just agreed with them in defeat.
"Okay," followed by a silent nod his head. "I will tell you everything but not here. You don't know how dangerous this place is. Please Akira listen to me." his bestfriend pleaded more.
Akira is torn to be brutally honest. Her mind is occupied with her spiraling thoughts. What they heard from the paramilitary man is inhumane.
"I hear you! Y-you will k-kill us! You don't rescue people. You are planning to kill them, to kill us! That's your original p-plan! You're a monster!" Akira blabbered. Her body is now shaking in fear while whimpering, there are actual tears on her eyes.
"I won't hurt you! I will never do that to you!" Brylle emphasized each words.
"We can't continue talking here! My comrades are just a few blocks from her. And this, we haven't checked this whole area! The zombies are just lurking everywhere. And if you hear them talking about a horde, I admit it's true..." his bestfriend once again took a step forward.
"There's a horde coming, we saw them routing here. Didn't you hear them ordering us to plant the bombs? Time is running out, we should leave this isle. If we don't, we only have two choice, let us get infected or be ashes from the bombs. If you don't trust me as your bestfriend, please trust me as person then. If you want us all to survive, please believe what I'm saying. I'm not here to put your lives in danger. I can even bait my o-own life for you.." his last sentence were said in whisper.
"Please Kiki..." overwhelmed, Akira hugged her bestfriend tightly, even if the situation confuses her to the core, she believes that this is still her bestfriend. The same Brylle with the softest heart who can't even hurt an ant. At that moment, she chose to follow her heart.
"P-please lead us the way..." she whispered tiredly.
***
Akira lost her conscious while hugging Brylle.
