     Josephine's POV
I sat under the oak tree reading The Great Gatsby. I turned the page to continue reading when the book was snatched right out of my lap.

"Hey!" I shouted looking up to see who took my beloved book.

"You're such a nerd..." The boy said analyzing the book.

"Who are you?" I asked standing up whilst dusting off my pants. My question caused the boy to chuckle slightly. He had a middle part through his brown hair and splitting green eyes.

"I'm Jacob... Jacob Anderson." He stated putting my book under his arm. "And you're Josephine Anderson."

"How do you know my name?" I asked crossing my arms. How could he know a quiet girl, especially me!

"My dad knows your dad blah blah blah..." He trailed off. I stared at the book under his arms.

"What are you-" He started to say but he remembered that he had my book. "Ahh you want your book back?"

"Yes please." I held my hand out waiting for him to give it back.

"I'm not gonna give it back so easily." He said with a smirk crawling onto his lips.

I sighed and started walking away from him. "Wait" He called after me but I continued to walk, not even looking back.

I got all the way back to my house without him chasing me. My dad would've been asking the both of us questions.

I walked through the living room and into the kitchen to pour a glass of water. "So who was the boy?" My older sister Sarah said coming up behind me. Sarah is only 2 years older than me.

I rolled my eyes and turned to her. "A rude boy who took my book."

"He was flirting with you..." She winked. I shook my head and laughed knowing well that a popular boy wouldn't like a girl like me.

"You might not think so but I know so." She said before walking away.

I finished my glass of water and put it in the sink. I walked upstairs to my room, closing the door behind me.

I threw myself onto my bed and sighed, ready for bed even though it was only 2 p.m.

Now that it's summer my friends and I can hangout. Yesterday was my last day of 9th grade. Now in two months I'll be a sophomore.

I sat up off of my bed and looked around my room. My room was decorated like a hippies room, my dad said I got it from my mom.

I took my phone off of my nightstand and dialed my friend, Adiline's number. She answered after a couple of rings...

"Hello?"

"Hey Addie!"

"Hey Joe, what's up!"

"You wanna come over, I have so much to tell you!"

"I would love to but I'm going to a special family dinner because there's like a new family in town or something. It's at the church tonight, anyone who wants to meet them is welcome to come!"
