Josephine's POV
"Hey mom!" I called from the bathroom door, a little bit of toothpaste dribbling down from the corner of my mouth.

I heard my moms soft footsteps coming up the stairs and down the hallway as I was gurgling some water.

"Yes?" She stood, leaning against the doorframe.

"Is it okay if Ivy spends the night too?" I said wiping my mouth with my embroidered face cloth.

"Yes, that's okay." She smiled softly.

My mom was really gentle. She has a kind soul. She always says she wants what's best for us. Her parents, my grandparents, were rough on her as she grew, that's why she ran away and dropped out of high school at the age of 16, her biggest fear is one of her children doing the same.

"Thank you mom!" I said hugging her.

Once she pulled away she placed a kiss on my cheek then shooed me off.

"Mason!" I shouted while banging on his door.

He opened the door abruptly and glared at me.

"Don't rush me." He said walk to his bed.

I enter his room and look around, the last time I was in his room was a couple months ago.

Even though him and I are fairly close we hardly ever go into each others rooms. I tell Mason everything, I tell him about the girl that judge me in school, and the boys that tease me, but I also tell him what I observe.

Like I'll tell him what I observe throughout the day and he'll draw it on a piece of paper, he makes pretty art out of the ugly things I tell him.

I walked over to his desk and looked through a stack of papers that he had drawn when I talked to him about my day.

"You drew this apple tree the day I got hit by an apple in the orchard." I laughed looking at it. His drawings were so detailed, he could be a famous artist one day.

"Yeah, it fell right on your head, but that apple sure did make a good pie." He said letting out a small chuckle.

"I guess." I rolled my eyes jokingly.

"You ready go?" He asked standing up and smoothing out his pants. He had on a button up shirt he wore for one of his rodeos and a pair of wranglers and boots.

"Yep." I smiled softly as I put the paper back to the stack it was in.

We walked down stairs but our dad stopped us.

"I got some boys that are gonna be having a bonfire here tonight at 8:30 and they said they'll be at that meeting thing tonight, so I'll need you to bring them over here." Dad said patting Masons back.

"You want them to ride in the bed of my truck?" Mason asked.

"Yeah, seems like that's where they'll have to ride because you're bringing home your sister and her friends." Dad said with a smile.

"Friends? Plural?" Mason asked turning to me.

"Yes, just Ivy and Addie." I said shrugging.
