Josephine's POV
Addie and Ivy rode in the car with Laci, Sarah, and my parents while I rode with Mason to Applebee's.

"What did you tell Sarah?" I asked Mason, turning my head towards him.

"I told her that you and that new boy Ethan were getting close." Mason said, a small smile on his lips.

"Well you put under the impression that I like him or something." I scoffed, turning my head back towards the road.

"You don't like him?" Mason said, I could feel his eyes glance at me.

"Only as a friend..." I trailed off.

"Whatever you say." He scoffed.

I only turned the radio up to tune him out.

I only thought of Ethan as a friend. I mean we did get close fast but that's how all friendships start. Addie and I got close fast. Ivy and I got close fast. I don't see the problem.

When we arrived at Applebee's I got out of the car quickly to go meet Addie and Ivy at my moms minivan.

"I swear they like each other." Ivy said to Addie. They didn't know I was behind them.

"No, she would've told us if she liked him." Addie said; but it is true, if I did like him I would've told them but I don't like him.

"Hey." I simply said, scaring them. I don't know how they didn't know I was behind them.

"Hey Joe." They said in sync. Weird.

"Let's go girls." My dad said.

We all walked inside to see Ethan and his family in the waiting area.

We all got seated. Ethan and I sat across from each other, Charlotte sat next to Ethan, Laci sat next to Charlotte, Addie sat next to me, Ivy said on the other side of Addie, and so on.

I was moving around so much in my seat because the seats here were uncomfortable. I accidentally hit Ethan's legs multiple times due to me being uncomfortable and the table was small, width wise.

I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and texted Ethan a quick 'sorry'. If I were to say it out loud it would be weird and having to explain why I said it would be a hassle.

The waitress came over and took our order.

"So Josephine, I'm planning to have a party, a pool party at our house next weekend to welcome the community and show them that we mean well but would you come over one day or a couple of days next week and help me write the invitations?" Elizabeth asked.

"Yes, of course." I said with a smile. I was always willing to help out with stuff that has to do with the community.

"Y'all can come over right after this, we have a big pond and on sundays we like to fish and swim and everything." My mom smiled brightly at the parents opposite of her and my father.

"We would love that but we have a lot to unpack still and everything." Elizabeth spoke, remorse dripping off of her words.

"My room is all unpacked and organized mom." Ethan spoke up.
