Chapter 6 - Where's my memory?

[USA's POV]

The door slammed loudly after Starlight and Universe left.

I managed to sit straight for like 5 secs, then I turned to my older brother.
"Say Connor, what do you think of this whole countryhuman thingy? It's pretty cool, isn't it? Maybe we'll even have powers!"
Connor smiled and shrugged slightly. "You can't do nothing for long, can you, Bea? Hah, I guess you can call it cool, but I need more time to actually form an opinion... Seems like our twins are enjoying themselves here, though."
He pointed at Ashley and Eli, who were already running around with some random other people that I, and probably they as well, didn't even know. They were always the 'once a kid, forever a kid' type. And I couldn't decide if it was good or bad. Yeah, they were a lot of fun, but the countless trouble they ever caused... I wasn't the one having the count though, it was Connor who used to get them out of their own dirt.

Luckily, there was no time for the twins to cause trouble. Starlight and Universe have returned back to us, but this time, they had some weird coats, gloves and glasses, something like laboratory equipment. Starlight was holding a giant key in her hand, that type
"Woah woah woah, a LAB COAT?" the guy with the Latvian flag on his face asked excitedly. "Are we gonna do experiments?"
His sister looked at him with a 'so done' expression. "Lūka, do you really think we're gonna do experiments? We're not even adapted yet!"
The boy, supposedly Lūka, rolled his eyes. "Y'know, not everyone needs years of adapting to things like you, Lina. Besides, how else would you explain it?"

Universe interrupted them. "Latvia is right in a way, we really are gonna do some sort of experiment." The guy made a face at his sister, but Universe wasn't done yet. "Lithuania is right as well, in a sense. Y'all really need to adapt better, and that's what the experiment is about." Saying that, he began to walk to the door, leaving us all there, some of us curious, some indifferent, but there were also worried ones. Noticing the anxiety on some faces, Starlight turned to us.
"Don't worry, " she assured. "It's safe, you'll be fine. I promise." Her sight diverted towards the door. "Now come with me, we better get started." Starlight stood up and followed Universe, walking so fast we had to try really hard to catch up with her.

[Mexico's POV]

"Uuuuuggggghhhhh...I hate running! Why me?! Why do I have to run, out of all the people?!" Okay, okay, I was overexaggerating a bit, I SWEAR every time I had to run, I was literally DYING. I've always hated running, it's too much of a movement for me!
My older brother Antonio raised an eyebrow. "Y'know Lili, you're gonna get even more tired if you keep talking!" He laughed lightheartedly and ran away, more to the front. That nasty little...

When we finally arrived at... well... whatever that place was, I was so, SO relieved. Finally, I can sit down! And not.do.anything. Yess!
Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice next to me. "Lili?"
I turned around and saw an old friend of mine, Bea. We met at the drama club, but she left later and since we didn't attend the same school, we didn't see each other again, maybe only on the street or somewhere like that.

"Bea! Long time no see, right?" Then, I noticed the flag on her face. "You're America? Hah, I'll never get used to calling you that!"
She grinned at me. "What? You're saying it's not relatable for me?" She pretended to be offended.
Playing along, I replied: "Of course not, you with your personality would totally need a smaller and more unknown country!" Ha. Bea hates being called shy. I really wanted to see her reaction.
Bea made an annoyed face for a second, but she suddenly stopped and rolled her eyes. "Bro I know you, you think I didn't realize you're just teasing me?"
Oh shucks. I don't even have the right to tease now? "Okay okay, you got me. What if we talk about ME and MY country instead?"
Bea glanced at me. "Typical you. I mean, I don't mind, but what else did I expect?" She sighed. "My sweet self-centered friend..."
I raised an eyebrow. "Okay okay, I admit. But you gotta admit, you're also self-centered."
"Yea, we're, like, the two best self-centered buddies that only like themselves!" Bea exclaimed jokingly. "Alright, what did you wanna talk about again?"

However, we didn't get a chance to talk about anything. And of course, it was because of Universe. He walked to the center of the room exuberantly and began to talk while gesturing vividly.
"So, we've made it!" he grinned. Starlight walked up to him. "You're probably asking yourself, what did we make? What is he talking about?"
A guy with a Czech-flag face rolled his eyes and smirked. "I honestly don't give a damn but go on I guess." His friends started laughing and he looked pleased with himself. I laughed as well. It was funny, come at me!
Starlight, however, ignored it and continued: "Well, I'm gonna explain it to you. When the souls we talked about earlier entered your body, they did change your mindset a bit, but not completely. They put the important information such as your country names, your countries' languages, history and and other knowledge about it, but they're all stored in your subconsciousness. We figured out that if we want you to exist, which can happen only in this world because the souls can't exist in the human world, we need to transport the information from your subconsciousness to your active minds."

Starlight got interrupted again, this time by a girl who had a Ukrainian flag and a stressed expression on her face.
"What... What's that...?" she questioned with a trembling voice, pointing at a perfectly aligned row of weird giant machines basically only consisting of a huge barrel and a computer connected of it. It surely weirded me off.

"Oh, that?" Universe waved his hand lightheartedly. "That's how we're gonna do it. It's simple. " He wanted to continue, but Starlight covered her mouth quickly. "Universe! Be a little considerate, would you?"
Universe didn't seem to care a bit and continued anyways. Hah, I like him!
"Whatever, whatever. As I was saying, it's simple. You're basically gonna lie in those machines each. You'll sleep there through the night and when you wake up, you'll be fully adapted to your new forms. Don't worry, it's nothing dangerous, we've already tested it on some other entities, " he added as he saw the concern on some people's faces.

Actually, I kind of liked the idea. Sure, it was a risk, but come on, what that bad could happen? I'm sure we'll be fine, plus, it seems interesting! But it seemed like some others didn't quite agree. The Ukrainian girl, for example, was already sitting on the floor and trying not to lose it, or a boy with a German flag was desperately trying to find his phone and search up something about the machines.
Starlight noticed this and her face immediately turned into a kind motherly expression. God, how fast can she do that?! She walked up to them and tried to calm them down.
"Hey, hey... Look at me. Look me in the eyes. Don't worry... It's gonna be fine, I promise. It's totally safe. But if something goes wrong, me and Universe will witness it and we'll get you out of there. I know it's terrifying. But I know that you'll only feel better after you adapt to your countryhuman form. Okay?"
And she truly soothed them! Everyone who seemed unsure about the idea was now much more comfortable with it! Gosh, Starlight is a magician...

"Alright everybody!" Universe suddenly exclaimed. "Go find a machine with your name, and when you do, then get in!"
He clapped his hands. "Come on, faster!"
Woah, how impatient! Like what are we gonna do, a million tasks or what? We've got time, chill man!

I searched until I saw a piece of paper that said 'Liliana Fernández, Mexico. ' I got so excited that second! I crawled inside and gasped. It looked just as big as my room in my past life! And it was so pretty inside... Not what you'd expect from a random boring machine.
It took me a few minutes to stop hyperactively dancing around and to actually lay on the bed. I wasn't a tiny bit tired, but the moment I closed my eyes, I lost consciousness and all the contact with the world surrounding me...
